Quiet or is it just me?

#1 Post by JF1981 » Tue Aug 30, 2022 7:26 pm

Been watching and thinking for a while, but it does seem like there are less players that there have been historically. Less players, less games etc

Is it just me or do others feel the same?

There are certainly less "new" games on the list....

I feel that way as well. Maybe it is just a summer/fall lull? It might pick up soon. Not sure though

There seem to be a lot of bot games going on these days. Maybe it has pulled players away from playing regular (ranked) games. ( ? )

It's odd because I remember hearing that the site was more active than ever during the Pandemic. I wonder if that's died down a lot, or if people just don't come into the forums, or if it's mostly private or bot games.

Could be a little of all three.

As somebody who took a decade-long hiatus from the site before returning earlier this year, I can definitely attest to a fall in activity over that period.

Though I am sure there were plenty of peaks and troughs over the intervening period!

I can second the above. I just got back on after being off for a few years and the amount of activity in both games and the forum is a fraction of what it was the last time I was active.

I am yet another of those who recently came back after a few years away. I joined about 10 years ago, dropped off, then came back 5 years ago before taking a long break again. There was definitely a lot more activity in both of those periods. I like playing longish phase gunboat games, but I find I have to create most of my new games myself now since there are typically few new games getting started.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new RR system plays a part. I know my son who also plays has been banned for a year. It is not very forgiving. My activity peaks and troughs as well due to NMR related effective bans.

I think one of the site admins could probably give us hard stats on just how many players have been forced out.

I could also be stupidly wrong :)

I stopped playing games for a year because of my unreliability, returned and just played against the BlighterDalekBots until recently when I joined a game that had an open spot and it's a grubby gunboat style game without diplomacy.
I'm probably part of the problem, often apathetic, a dissident, a shallow, insincere clown who mocks wednecks in the forum?

Sweetypie Jampoodle, tis you, there is a concept with which comedians and many of the public are aware of known as "satirical self depreciating humour".....
Perhaps I was mocking myself?

What was not satirical or humorous was being a 1st responder on my own with a chap ~mid40s who died in my care while paramedics on their way on 4th April 2020, yet as a consequence I started a new career as an actor and comedian became a bit of a Dadaist preparing for Fun in Purgatory.
I am a candidate in a Local Council election, voting is in early November & I am hopeful that I might annoy you more by being elected.
There's $Aus12,000+ pa in remuneration for 4 years plus the opportunity to do things you would abhor.
How is your run to get elected? Or are you an "armchair on the sidelines ranter"?
