E-mail notifications?

#1 Post by montalvo » Fri Feb 11, 2022 3:26 pm

Hello,

I've taken a break from playing the game for a little while in order to let my RR recover, as I missed several turns due to forgetfulness and a busy schedule. However, I wonder if it would be possible to implement a system whereby an automated e-mail is sent to a user's e-mail account whenever they are within 1 hour of a turn coming up on games they are playing? Perhaps this could be enabled on a per-game basis, with the user specifying under their account settings how far in advance they wish to be notified by e-mail (if at all).

Many thanks!

That sounds like a good idea! I don't think I would use it personally, but I know that it would really help some others and decrease missed turns. I hope it wouldn't be too hard to implement, but I don't particularly see why it would be.

??? ATC haven't you contributed code?

It wouldn't be very hard to do.. but.. bleah. I'd wait for the phone app which will have notifications etc, I think that's the best way, having to send e-mails to remind people to send orders I dont think many would use

First one's free, but I'll need an update to my contributor status for the next time I need to fix one of your little problems:

function sendEmails
;;;;while playedID subscribesTo get_notifications:
;;;;;;;;;if turn(ends) then
;;;;;;;;;;;;send e-mail to playerID.email
;;;;;;;;;;else
;;;;;;;;;;;;do nothing
;;;;;;;;;;end
;;;loop
end

edit: looks like the forum doesn't like blank spaces but this should work too

It would be very useful to people with loaded daily schedules, especially when something had gone awry and the schedule is disturbed.

I really agree with this; it's the principal reason why I am currently not actively playing the game.

A phone app with notifications sounds wonderful; I hope that that is something that can be released soon.
