The 2022 Online Diplomacy Championship

#1 Post by captainmeme » Mon Feb 21, 2022 4:08 pm

Hey all!

I'm excited to announce that Malarky - who you may know as the person who runs the Diplomaticon blog, and who goes by THC here on webDip - will be running the 2022 Online Diplomacy Championship!

The ODC is a tournament which alternates between webDiplomacy and PlayDiplomacy, so this current iteration will be played over on PlayDip, with the PlayDiplomacy Classic Open tournament doubling as the ODC. Anyone is welcome to sign up; you can read the full rules and sign up in the Tournament thread on PlayDip (you will need a PlayDip account for this).

Go sign up and see if you can win the title of 2022 Online Diplomacy Champion!

I was trying to find past results and found this:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna ... _Diplomacy

Feels pretty hilarious that there's a serious wiki page talking about this. Also, VI is it correct that VI is Canadian? Thought he was south of the border.

I don't think it is funny at all. Diplomacy is important. This is a cult game with a devoted following. I would be surprised if it was not there.

I am glad that they list the winners. I am sure i have played some of them not knowing their pedigree.

I remember, I played one legendary guy, an ex-mayor in the San Jose area, in the San Jose whipping. We all knew who he was. I was going to "take it to him", "show the old man who is boss". Oh man, he schooled me. I was out quick. What a little yap dog I was.

Sounds like you're talking about Edi Birsan.

And I don't think you can convince me otherwise. The WebDip World Cup getting a Wikipedia subsection is definitely funny.

Yah it was Edi. Nice guy.

I guess you have a point. Putting this in the same place as the Battle of Waterloo, or Gandhi's Great Salt March... yah. Maybe diplomacy is not THAT important.

Really good to see webDip peeps joining this tournament - thanks!

As I'm writing this we're at 37 entrants but looking for more. It's not too late!

Thanks to the Captain for putting this out here - I'll be posting in lots of places of the coming weeks so book early!

Oh I also meant to say, there's a strong possibility that this could be a listed tournament for qualifying points towards the DBNI 2023, too, so a little added incentive there!
