faster games - in this medium - mean poorer games
I agree 100%. If you haven't played a 3 ½ year game, you've never played a good game of on-line Diplomacy. :eyeroll:

Re: Announcing the 2022 Virtual Diplomacy League

Misread it, sorry: The Tour of Britain games both start at 3pm, not the 03:00 UTC time also applied to these links. Somebody had a brain fart

Re: Announcing the 2022 Virtual Diplomacy League

Hmm. Just visited the Discord server and had a look around. The March VDL games are listed, as well as the March and May games in the Tour of Britain. It's the latter I found... surprising. According to the server, the Tour of Britain games both start at 3am UTC. Does this make the Tour of Britain a...

Re: Rulebook Press

I don't see why Rulebook Press couldn't be part of the online experience if that's what players wanted to play. It really doesn't move Online play that much closer to FTF or vFTF, frankly. I don't think it would make games shorter, though. Short deadlines do that; long deadlines are long deadlines w...

NOTES ON A NAPKIN - Call for Articles

You know, time flies. I've spent some time on playing (yes, actually playing - I can hardly believe it), time on the POC/ODC IV (wait... you're not signed-up yet? Do it!), writing a bit for my blog (but not a lot) and some time in writing my new book on Diplomacy (working title "The Pink Book of Dip...

Re: The 2022 Online Diplomacy Championship

Really good to see webDip peeps joining this tournament - thanks! As I'm writing this we're at 37 entrants but looking for more. It's not too late! Thanks to the Captain for putting this out here - I'll be posting in lots of places of the coming weeks so book early! Oh I also meant to say, there's a...

Thanks for the feedback.

I should have fixed the link now, JECE.

So issue #2 is in production. I'm hoping to get some stuff from webDip players :)

Issue #1 of NOTES ON A NAPKIN out now

The new Dipzine I've been working on has now been published. Late, I know, but couldn't be helped this time. NOTES ON A NAPKIN #1 Issue #2 will be published in May 2022; the deadline for contributions is 30 April . After #2 I'll be back to the quarterly publishing schedule. I've extended this deadli...

Re: First time playing a griefer in this game.

There was no negotiation. There was an unreasonable demand for me to hand him the game. And then punishment when I failed to give it to him. Exactly. Negotiation is when one side opens, and the other comes back with a counter. I don't know, obviously, but you've not said what your counter was. I'm ...

Re: Can we have a "Concede" option i9n bot games please.

Actually, having a way to concede a game isn't that bad an idea in any game. If all survivors agree to draw the game, it ends. Not a concession to a single player, I know - they're all getting something out of the game. Still, if you like, they're conceding that the game isn't going to be won (I'm s...

Re: First time playing a griefer in this game.

There is nothing personal here. I am not angry. I am not emotional about it. I am just calling a spade a spade. My initial post was one of honest surprise. I'd played a quite a number of games, and not once have I had a player act in a way I can easily identify as griefing. Why do some of you seem ...

Re: First time playing a griefer in this game.

Damn. This is ridiculous. "You're griefing me." It gets to something when someone can't separate the game from life.

Where's the nearest "Guess Who?" convention?

Re: First time playing a griefer in this game.

Well, I dunno, it takes all sorts, I guess. Certainly, if you're going to play well, Diplomacy isn't about "being an ass", as anyone with an adequate level of skill will say. Still, it is what it is, I guess. There are asses playing the game, and we're all an ass to someone. At least he's not a Care...

A New Dipzine?

This is something I've been thinking about for a while and I'm not pushing on with it. I've tried this before but lost momentum, mainly because I was the only person writing for the zine. This time, if I can get material from other contributors, I can keep it up. Frankly, with my blog and my writing...

The way to master this is to convoy from St Petersburg to Syria.
