Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

Oh crap, the GR counts. Yeah I'm done :(
Oh well (was kinda hoping that I'd just sneak in on a multi-tie scenario but guess I should actually read the rules instead of assuming stuff :P )

(then again, TECHNICALLY it didn't say whether the tiebreaker benefited the HIGH or the LOW gr... :P )

Re: Diplomacy Games are Like Onions, Layer 1: Politics

In a Gunboat game, how do you use your skill to avoid being attacked by Italy as Austria in 1901 Spring, or avoid being 2v1'd as a Western power? There's really nothing you can do as Austria to avoid the 1901 spring cluster (I personally feel like "waht do the other 6 people do in spring 1901" is p...

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

A bit more on Germany because it's both really weird and really interesting what I'm seeing... By my count, three people got three solos (Balki B, Floodgates, Hirohito). Call this group A. Another three people got above 400 (i.e. two solo's and some kind of draw): pyxxy, irilyth, genghiz. Call this ...

Re: Has Diplomacy Regressed to Just Lying?

Some lies are needed, after all, you cannot have all six of your co-players (or 9 or even 16 in other versions) happy otherwise. But if I come to an alliance, I will not betray my ally. The opposite is a bitter cup to swallow, and this makes me sometimes to stay away from playing. I generally won't...

Re: Has Diplomacy Regressed to Just Lying?

... I struggle to think what that would even look like. This game just isn't well designed to function well without some amount of, we'll call it bluffing. Decent players should be poking and prodding you all the time to ask what you're up to and half the strategies won't succeed very well if you'r...

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

Somewhat weirdly, early results suggest that GERMANY is the power most strongly correlated with a high finish... except that it also seems clear that it's because the highest ranked players are taking Germany, as opposed to Germany itself doing all that well. Indeed, it may well be that Germany is a...

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

I'd compiled some stats as well (probably w/ some error but w/e :P ) and I think the biggest area of strength for France is that the rate of catastrophic failure (whether defined as an outright loss [bot solo or outright defeat I treat as equal], or whether you also factor in stuff like 6wd/7wd whic...

Here is some statistics, so far.

Solo rate so far is 33%. It seems very likely that the cutoff for the second round will be 400 pts. With maybe 15-20 people tied...

Re: School of War Summer 2019

Looking back at turkeys stab of Russia, does that still merit the really high grade given at the time or was it in fact a poor stab? I look at the convoy from Tuscany to Albania as particularly questionable given that turkey could have crippled Italy by forcing Rome AND had a useful army pretty west...

Re: Introducing the first ever webDiplomacy Terminator Tournament!

Feels like a good % of people are dying FAST as Austria, probably because Italy is attacking them in 1901 well more often than site meta suggests. Italy felt *TOO* easy to solo, mainly b/c I don't think the bots really recognized the importance of key stalemate line positions or when I was in strong...
