Re: Austria vs Bots
England's support-hold of Belgium was unfortunate. I never would have guessed that, either. It looked like an E/G was in the works. England just took the Channel from France by force in the spring. It was pretty clever how you vacated Belgium in the spring, then came back for it in the fall when yo...

Re: Austria vs Bots
Turkey breaking through the Tyr/WM/Tun/GoL is one of my favorite positions when the line isn't fully stalemated. Just one thing to consider from Russia/Germany, Germany will flip supports to Vienna if you were to take Budapest and Trieste (presumably both on the same turn). But the German line isn'...

Re: Austria vs Bots
I've now got 4 on TYS and could take it by force in the Autumn. I'm considering NAP-->TYS supported by TUS, ROM, and ION, plus ADR support-hold ION. If England ordered SPA-->GoL again, the dislodged TYS fleet would have no retreat and would be destroyed. For Spr '16, England would be in GoL, but he...

Re: Austria vs Bots
Alright. Here goes: https://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=439208&turn=28&mapType=large Yep. The Med moves went as expected. Also, a possibly interesting development in the North: England did convoy off the island, to Norway. And his Norway army went to Finland. Is Sweden on the chopping block? Ger...

Re: Austria vs Bots
These moves feel right to me. I'm going to ready up. I could be guessing wrong, but I'm not going to change my mind. Here goes: https://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=439208&turn=27&mapType=large Pretty good! England again moved exactly as I predicted. Germany ordered all support-holds. England bu...

Re: Austria Bot Game Review
I largely agree with Doug's comments. The main thing I would have done differently is in 1903. I would not have been worried about Germany moving to Silesia. That was an anti-Russian move, not anti-Austrian. And it slowed you down a little to move to Bohemia, then back. In 1906, I kind of like what ...

Re: Austria vs Bots
Agree with army Kiel. Still, you have a guess to defend Belgium in the Spring unless England intervenes (F LON-->ENG could be helpful). Also agree on Turkey looking strong. As is Russia BTW, maybe more of a concern for Germany. You have to root for Italy to pick up Trieste and Vienna in the carve-up...

Re: Austria vs Bots
I got busy the last couple of days. I've finally had a chance to review the map and I've settled on these orders for Spr '14: TUS-->VEN supported by ADR ROM-->TUS ION-->NAP supported by APU EAS-->ION supported by AEG There's a chance England will make a concerted attack on Tuscany, and my Rome fleet...

Re: Austria vs Bots
Since my Autumn moves are already decided, and nothing unexpected happened in Italy, I'm going to ready up again (and commentary later). I know Naples is at risk, but only if bot-England does something new and unexpected. Here goes: https://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=439208&turn=25&mapType=lar...

Re: Austria vs Bots
In my game ( https://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=439208&turn=23&mapType=large ), I'm now leaning toward trying to destroy the English fleet at Tuscany. I'll have to lure it into Rome in the Spring, then destroy it in the Autumn. The plan: Build a fleet at Smyrna. In Spr '13, I expect England wi...

Re: Austria vs Bots
Fast forwards a few *more* turns... I kept Italy's fleet in AEG at bay, took Munich in 1918, and now, in the Winter of 1919... my units have finally caught up to my centers... ...and the Mighty Austrian Navy has returned! I ought to be able to get 4 more to polish this thing off. ...and fast forwar...

Re: Austria vs Bots
In my game, in the fall of 1912 I decided to leave Greece to the fates and play Bul S Con, Con S Syr-Smy, Arm-Ank. I didn't want Con to move, but didn't want it to be destroyed either as I probably couldn't rebuild it. Also, I played the already mentioned tricky defense of the Austrian homeland. It...

Re: Austria vs Bots
Yes, they are! Speaking of which, in my Turkey game, we are here, with Autumn 1912 moves next: https://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=439208&turn=22&mapType=large My original plan was to take Rome from Naples, to start pushing the fleets up the west coast of Italy. That plan would have required ION...

Re: Austria vs Bots
Yes, sorry, BUL support-hold CON (not RUM).
I guess the downside of the Trieste-Vienna defense is that you will definitely be left with nowhere to build ... Maybe there is another defense that's more risky but also leaves a home SC open?

Re: Austria vs Bots
As far as my game goes... https://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=441198&turn=21&mapType=large ...yes, that didn't work out quite like I'd hoped, but it's not bad at all. I'm not even sure I considered the supported move into Con now that I think about it after the fact. At least I got the part abo...
