Re: 2018 World Cup
What I know for certain is that a good chunk of my rating came from various Masters tournaments and events like the ODC and 2014 tournaments. If we are taking the view that tournaments should not be ranked then my current ranking is a complete farce and GR will become even more a meaningless long se...

Re: 2018 World Cup
It's an interesting point. You could argue that if the purpose of the tournament is to provide entertaining competition for site members then adding an element that discourages game throwing is a positive addition. Regardless, I am very much of the opinion that tournaments being unranked skews GR fa...

Re: 2018 World Cup
I'd love to hear a convincing argument for them to not be ranked, as in all honesty I can't think of one. These tournaments are a great opportunity for the up and coming players to test themselves against the established old farts of the site, and it's a damned shame if we're going to deny them the ...

Re: 2018 World Cup
Do we know what form the games will take this year? None of that sum of squares nonsense, and I trust we're going to drop the irritating new fashion of making tournament games unranked?

Re: Do you change your style according to the country you roll?
As for the topic of the thread, my position is pretty similar to VI's. I go into each game with the same set of principles regardless of the nation I'm playing. Speak to everyone, and base my alliances on the people rather than the geography. In the sense that each nation has its own set of possibil...

Re: Do you change your style according to the country you roll?
All you have to do is look menacing whilst not coming across as a threat. To do that grow quickly without taking too many centres, be generous to your allies without giving them too much, and be open and honest without revealing your intentions. Simples.

Re: Ghost Rating V2
Filtering out these quasi-retired players makes a lot of sense. I've no idea who most of these inactive players are. Granted, back in the day VillageIdiot was not without some talent, but who on earth is this zultar character?

Re: 2018 World Diplomacy Championships - Washington DC
I vaguely recall a player with a name like DesmondOverawed did pretty well. I don't remember any mention of a Durga though, sorry. Were you there too?
Still, not everyone can be as good as Des. What a guy :)

Re: Repercussions for quitting
What I want to know is what lame arse poodle happily takes the GR hit on behalf of the kind of chinless wonder who'd use subbing to cheat their way up a ratings ladder?

Re: Repercussions for quitting
Hang on... If you get subbed you don't lose any GR? How does that work? I always assumed if you were replaced it counted as a loss.

Re: Mod Team Announcement
You're going about it the wrong way, Maniac. The trick achieving modhood is not to make a fuss about it every other fortnight, but instead to make regular forum and game contributions over a period of years, take part in the occasional tournament and help out in a school of war or two, and wait for ...

Re: Stock Market Falling
One could argue that investing in a gold toilet etc before embarking on a policy of devaluing the dollar is a fine example of good business sense :)
