Re: webDip hosted full-press AI live

How does the bot react to stabs in press? Is it practical or does it have the more realistic (ie common), emotional response? Not sure, but when I got it running on my test system it rather bluntly told me it was going to kill me when I asked for an alliance. I am expecting it will get "angry" at s...

Re: "the server is not processing games until the cause is found"

It happens whenever the server hasn't processed any moves for a few minutes, for reasons I can never quite pin down but which must involve the server getting overloaded for some reason. Whenever I check the error logs during the period the downtime occurred it always draws a blank, and it doesn't ha...

Re: webDip hosted full-press AI live

Looks like there is an issue where if it receives a message while it's not actively running, i.e. when it's running the FvA bot, it doesn't trigger a process. Will need to sort that out. Otherwise seems to be running well, generating very good press that's much better than I could (won't display to ...

webDip hosted full-press AI live

Exciting news; the newest member of the webDip hosted bot family, dipgpt (name TBC), has posted its first press: Screenshot 2023-08-06 103539.jpg It's currently running from my desktop machine and uses all 24GB of GPU memory available, which means I can't run the FvA DORA bot and this at the same ti...

Re: I am the G.O.A.T. of press - Any worthy challangers?

I think there's no solution to scoring that everyone will be happy with, there have always been requests to change it around. There are things we could improve to make it so the points scoreboard is more dynamic and visible, and emphasizes who is rising in the ranks not just the historic high scores...

Re: Gender information for academic purposes

If I look up the stats in analytics it looks more varied at 75% male 25% female over the last 12 months.. But I'm not sure how accurate it is, not sure how they know the gender of users. I imagine it's based on search patterns or some such? The age stats also seem dubious, I feel like our user based...

Re: I am the G.O.A.T. of press - Any worthy challangers?

I'd be fine with removing ghost ratings and just going back to points. One of the nice thing about points is as the pool of points in play grows there's a kind of inflation so that the highest point score is worth less over time

Re: Forum over-run with advertising bots

I hope so, and hopefully the way it lets you click and check off territories you've clicked will let people trial and error it even if they can't connect the long territory name to the map name.

Anyway I've tested and deployed it, let's see how it goes

Re: Forum over-run with advertising bots

"and it means people who want to post on the forum but don't want to join a game for some legit reason" The only legitimate reason for someone wanting to post without joining a game is to ask a question of the mechanics of the game or the mechanics of the site. You could have a "Ask a Question" for...

Re: Forum over-run with advertising bots

Damn.. let's see.. looking at the list of banned users none of them joined games (except a couple non-bot bans which have joined loads of games), so I could make it so users can only post to the forum after they've joined a game. This does add the risk that if they are humans or are targeting the si...

Re: Why do site rules protect cheaters and punish the honest

A have already two false accusations. Don't worry; false accusations will be found to be false, and false accusations will decrease your suspiciousness as you've already been investigated to an extent. The person putting in false accusations will have those false accusations marked against them so ...

Re: Why do site rules protect cheaters and punish the honest

For any lurkers to the thread, the exchange between OP and William was pretty much the tenor of the chat in that whole game lol. My 2 cents: The players inviting one another to the game should recognize how that might make other players uncomfortable, even in a situation where there is no collusion...

Re: Why do site rules protect cheaters and punish the honest

Hi, it does take a while to properly investigate cheating accusations, but I can assure you if you log your suspicion in the system we will get around to looking at it. We're making it more systematic and have more info available to make decisions so there is a backlog, but we will get around to inv...

Re: Advertising bots

Btw we've just replaced the captcha with ReCaptcha, so we now get a bot score from google when people sign up. At the moment it lets anyone who did a valid token auth through, but we'll see how that goes and possibly change the threshold. It's a tricky balance between not wanting to block any potent...

Re: Advertising bots

Just got done with wielding the banhammer, they should all be gone now. Please DM me if I missed any. I'm unfortunately the only person who deals with these and I'm not *technically* a full forum mod so I can't see the report page. I just look around for them when the waves come in. Your profile sa...

I added a public link feature for sandboxes. It currently only works via the legacy board but will do for now: https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=644982&sbToken=7c507610 Screenshot 2023-06-10 190314.jpg When getting the link I clicked delete instead of the public link which deleted the whole...

Stick to the tech Kestas lol
Nothing would make me happier :| Diplomacy makes people crazy.. Shouldn't take too long to hand over game moderation, maybe a few months assuming there are still decent volunteers out there

Does this cross the line?

Got a situation that got brought up and not sure how to moderate it. (Paraphrased) A heads up to bordering countries: If I lose [Country B] wins a solo, and I will cooperate with them. So no attacks; I will delete units to advantage [Country B]. This is obviously poor form at the least, but do peopl...

Re: Early Diplomacy

I don't have tons of experience, but a lot of the opening moves were so painful for me that I lost interest and skimmed through the rest of the game. I think the most notable part of the game was the end state, with France in SMY(!) and Germany with a cheeky army in NAF. Was this full press or gunb...

Have to say it just looks like any regular game to me.. Does someone with more Diplomacy knowledge want to explain how this differs from modern play?

edit: Ahh the correspondence is so quaint and South English.. almost makes me miss Amersham..
