Re: Advanced Maneuvers

Good article, as usual, and nice seeing guest posts. If anybody has any additional fringe maneuvers to add that i've overlooked, i'd absolutely love to hear about them. Would make my day to hear about a new tactic! I think the 'defend by moving' tactic could have been added to part 2, about complex ...

Re: Variant rules game for players who like co-operation

I think this variant from vDiplomacy suits this idea really well. It would support five two-player teams.

Re: Newb Questions

It has to move from Red Sea to Egypt and then to Mediterranean Sea on the following turn, similar to how you have to move through Constantinople first if you want to move between Black Sea and Aegean Sea.

The word you are looking for is "amphibious (terrain)".

You can only do so during game creation. Select None under Game Messaging.

Re: When to Solo?

In your specific example, cdngooner, there is no risk involved. If you try to go for a solo, the others will probably try to pressure you into accepting a draw, not to defeat you.

Re: Newbies first game - 1 player required

It sounds like it would be a good idea for your group to play one of the variants over on vDiplomacy, for instance Anarchy in the UK.

I hope you will enjoy playing Diplomacy. :)

Once they follow the link with the gameID, the only way for them to join is to enter the invite code in the appropiate box.
Which they can find in the bottom right if they are logged in.

Mercy, the player will join the game without clicking Join? Does this happen automatically?
As far as I know, yes, that happens automatically.

Re: CD, and NMRs in private anonymous game

When a player fails to enter orders, the game gets extended and the player who missed an order will lose 1 excused missed turn. If the player already has 0 unexcused missed turns, the game still gets extended, but the player gets kicked out of the game (it will say 'Left'). When a player is kicked o...

Re: Starting positions

I could imagine, for example, for Turkey to build 3 A and move North against Russia provided alliance with Austria, while Austria goes against Italy. Why not? If Turkey was a bad player, he might do that, but not if he is a good player. Fleets are more beneficial for Turkey. In your example, it wou...

Re: Starting positions

Paradoxically, giving players more options for their starting units can make the game more predictable. For example, in standard Diplomacy, you are not sure if Russia will try to move to Norway in the first year. If Russia can choose his own starting units, you can, however, be quite sure that he wi...

Re: Two Tier Scoring

To add to my previous post: I was wrong to assume midway that I/A would always be successful in their effort to defeat T. Under the assumptions of RoganJosh, indeed I/A will only try to eliminate T if p < 1/9. Under the assumption that they will be successful in eliminating T even if G tries to solo...

Re: Two Tier Scoring

I haven't replied in this thread for a while, but I see that I am mentioned by name and I will take the time to write some replies. That's why Mercy's proposed "simplification" is actually a sizable alteration, in my view, and I see it as a shift away from one of the goals of the system. If we just ...
