Re: Freedom!

Eh? It's literally always been safe to go outside in public without a mask, regardless of whether or not you have a vaccination. Wearing a mask when you're not in an enclosed area or in a dense crowd of people does more harm than good because it dampens the mask and makes it less effective for when ...

Re: After 20 years of fighting the Taliban

Yeah, Biden's really taken the opportunity to make America look weak and run with it. American democracy is at a painfully low ebb. From the ineffective to the insane to the incapable.

Re: Freedom!

Out of curiosity, what exactly was it about what Sasanov said that earned him a silence?

Re: Freedom!

in fact, we should mark those unvaccinated im thinking something big! a nice fat yellow star right on the arm! There is a debate to be had over the treatment of people who don't, for whatever reason, wish to be vaccinated, but that's very much a debate for the politics thread. And even there compar...

Re: Freedom!

But we are in danger of turning this into a debate over covid policy when the intent is purely to celebrate the growing return to freedom that we are starting to see across the world.

Re: Freedom!

Is it ironic? The Indian variant driven wave came first to India, then made its way to the UK and mainland Europe, and is currently making headway in the USA. The spread of this variant was inevitable, but the extra time that the USA has had to prepare for it has been of great benefit to that nation...

Re: Freedom!

I have to disagree, gimix. I don't think it will ever be defeated, in much the same way that previous coronaviruses never were. There's a small chance that a vaccine is developed that can prevent people catching the virus, rather than reducing the chances and cutting the impact as the current ones d...

Freedom!

So, with Covid-19 in retreat as a lethal force in ever greater areas of the globe, and normal life returning to more and more people every day, how are we all finding it? I have to say that enjoying live music in a bustling pub, making plans to go to the other half's grandparent's 70th anniversary d...

Who's Darwyn? Is he knew?

Clearly a man who has dedicated the last 10 years to working out how signatures work. Time well spent, sir.

My parents have a fig tree, which helps keep them regular ;) . In terms of looking after, it kinda just grows by the shed and gets on with it.

Re: Arguments for God

You seeming to assume that I can know what qualities this infinite or at lest all emcompassing God has. That way Hubris lies. Oh, good Lord no. My assumption is far more modest and is simply that you know your own mind. But in the sense the God is everyone person, yes it is conscious. That’s like s...

Re: Arguments for God

God is the mountains, God is the sun, God is the quarks and every quantum field. I can show you all of these things. Which is all good stuff. God is glorious, magnificent, beautiful and terrible and all that. But what I have to ask, as it seems somewhat crucial from the perspective humanity, is thi...

Re: Arguments for God

Religion changing over the years isn't super compelling to me as a reason to doubt the idea behind it when things such as philosophy/morality/politics have changed and developed over the years too. It was never my intention to propose it as a reason to doubt the existence of God :-) It might help i...

Re: Arguments for God

The existence of God makes very little sense to me. I do not understand the concept of God. It is a nonsense concept. Both concepts of Non-existence -> Existence and ∞ Existence ∞ are absurd. Yet one has to be true. Unless there's another possibility I'm missing? Well, yes. An alternative possibili...

Re: Diplomacy Dreamin'

I had a dream a year or two ago in which I was aware I was dreaming and couldn't do anything to wake up. I thought I'd been successful a few times, but it turned out I'd just dreamed I'd woken up and was still very much asleep. It gave me the option to try a few things... apparently you can indeed r...

They have a fun little collection of shrunken heads in Pitt Rivers in Oxford. Have to keep them them hidden away now, of course. Political correctness and all that. All that aside, good on you for giving it a go. You planning on charging back into the breach any time soon or taking a break for a whi...

Re: Southern Boarder

@Oct, interesting that you give 3 examples of 'we need to fix them', rather than looking at it as a 'we should ask them how we can help them fix themselves'. Define "them" in this context, because depending on who you ask in any particular nation you will get a wide variety of conflicting answers. ...
