Re: Site wide notices and game tabs

Hmm, I'll take a look at those icons now. JECE I don't suppose I could get a screenshot? I'm surprised to hear you're having issues in Chrome as I'm on Chrome and it's looking okay.

Site wide notices and game tabs

Hi, As you've probably noticed webDip now has your game shortcuts up at the top of the forum like before, and will also display site notices from the main site in the forum: now you can browse around here while keeping an eye on your games. It will also ensure that users banned in webDip are banned ...

Re: The great beer debate

My fave is the West Australian brew Little Creatures Pale Ale, which happened when they wanted to make an American Pale Ale over here, and it took off like crazy.

I do like a nice English real ale, but it's hit and miss and you need to be in the mood.

Re: "NaN" response when you +1 a post

NaN stands for not a number. Means something divided by zero or some such, I'm sure it'll be an easy fix, and it doesn't seem to affect the functionality

Encrypted https://webdiplomacy.net/ available

We've got a free SSL certificate from https://letsencrypt.org/ , in case an over-enthusiastic player decides to tap your internet to read your press, so you can now use: https://webdiplomacy.net/ https://www.webdiplomacy.net/ I'm interested in anyone who gets a browser warning from the above address...

Re: We should have +1s again .. or should we?

I can tweak things up a bit so the number and + aren't so detached. Also I've noted the NaN bug and will figure this out asap.

Re: We should have +1s again .. or should we?

Okay I've added a karma extension and tweaked it to work with our template. Do we definitely want +1 and not a thumbs up or love heart? I think the + may be confusing.

Re: We should have +1s again

Hmmm.. Perhaps we could put it to a forum poll? I don't mind either way, and there'll likely be a phpBB module that does most of the work.

Re: Forum blocking is not good enough

The problem is that would mean caching the forum for everyone, rather than everyone sharing one. We used to get around this with some custom in-browser filtering, but we can't do that with phpBB. I'll take a look at the server load and will decide if it'd be okay for us to generate these live / per-...

Re: Site Downtime

Yep adding time is for when the system was down so people couldn't submit orders; if the server has been up and accepting orders the whole time not much point adding time. Sorry the notice was misleading.

Re: Are we ever going to get TLS on this site?

And if it was considered of real value we could afford a proper certificate from a genuine CA, however I personally think it would be a waste of donor cash. I just don't consider this site a real target for the MITM attacks that TLS would guard against.

Re: Are we ever going to get TLS on this site?

Certificates are free with trustycertificates.ru as well, the question is are they a respected certificate authority, and how can they actually validate people for free?

Re: Cryptocurrency

I think it's a nifty way to send/receive money, and the underlying blockchain datastructure is also interesting, but I'll eat my hat if it becomes a truly stable way to store wealth. The reason: transaction fees and delays. It takes too long, and too much energy and money, to validate a bitcoin tran...

Re: Sloooow front page updates

Fair enough about removing quotes; although I will say this is technically more difficult than you might think. (At least to do it securely without any XSS/SQL issues) Slow front page updates? Do you mean that the front page only updates every 10-15 mins? This is by design to keep server load down; ...

Re: New forum; introduction and next steps

Seems appropriate to thank those who donated to the development drive earlier this year, and the mods for running it. This project isn't directly related to the funds, but the response definitely showed the interest in new functionality and is motivational (even though I can't spend as much time as ...

New forum; introduction and next steps

Welcome to the new (proposed) forum; phpBB3 integrated with webDip's user accounts and given a webDip theme. What we want to do now is let people try it out on a small scale in this semi-hidden mode, and see if there are any performance / config issues. Over time we may make changes based on feedbac...

Re: O.9999999... = 1?

Good stuff, when setting up forums I would make sure to start with as few forums as possible and then expand if necessary, rather than creating too many categories and have dead forums. Could be good to have sections for mods requests etc, live games, political discussions, Dip discussions, an anyth...
