Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

Great move Sploack! That is the problem with a 2-way draw. They are inherently artificial as it is practically impossible to engineer an exact 17-17 split without either party having a chance to stab for the solo.

Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

Jay: my poker analogy isn't about bad players. I agree, you can't complain about bad play, you just have to beat it. My poker analogy was about soft-playing or chip-dumping -- an agreement for one player to take it easy on another, or to lose on purpose to another -- both of which are illegal in pok...

Wow, that sounds cool, Chaqa, particularly if there were a press version. I'll look into it. Thank you.

Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

No, that's against the site rules. Claesar, can you point me where in the rules this is forbidden. I'm aware of the rule against making such an agreement before the game and outside the game, with someone you know, but where in the rules is it forbidden to make such a deal inside the game in Spring...

Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

Peregrine: I'm afraid I can't understand that logic. By that logic, it would be acceptable for two players to make an agreement going into a game that one will throw all of his centres to the other in the first few turns, thereby giving the other a huge advantage against those not involved in the de...

Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

Absolutely there is nothing wrong with using a 2-way Draw deal as a TACTIC, to help you in your actual goal of reaching a solo. But for a 2-way Draw to be your actual GOAL. That is what I object to. I can't imagine starting a game hoping that with a little luck I may just get a tie.

How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

A game is just ending that was very frustrating. I took over a CD with 4 units and was quickly eliminated. No problem with that - that was expected. The problem I had was it was immediately clear that the two board toppers had a deal for a 2-way draw. Also no problem with that, as long as the 2-way ...

I hoped to link you to the clear board page, but evidently not. Just click "Clear Board" under the map.

Re: Player active in spite of running out of excused missed turns

FWIW, I agree that it is wrong to allow someone removed from a game for breaking the rules (missing more than the allowed number of moves), to get back in and face effectively no penalty. He may be allowed into OTHER games as long as he is not banned, but should be allowed back into the game in whic...

Here's the sandbox I use: http://gamesbyemail.com/Games/Politics/Judge

Click "clear board" and drag units to where you want them, then give them orders.

To me its counterintuitive that what would normally be a bounce in Province A becomes a loss for me there because of a win in Province B.

Re: Rules Resolution Question

Thank you for those references. It seems counterintuitive that I (as attacking Turkey) am penalized but losing Black Sea, only because I was successful in taking Sev.

Rules Resolution Question

How does this happen? Russia: Diplomacy The army at Warsaw hold. (dislodged) The fleet at Sevastopol move to Black Sea. (fail) (dislodged) The fleet at Rumania move to Black Sea. All games were apparently automatically paused. Can they now be automatically unpaused? At least non-live games.

Re: A rant about Reliability Rating

No one REQUIRES you to check in every day. You CHOOSE to do so when you enter a game with a certain phase length, a certain number of excused missed turns, or a certain Reliability Rating.

Re: Variant rules game for players who like co-operation

I'm happy to switch to the four player variant: I/R, A/F, T/G, E by itself
Thanks Dioptre. I consider the rules set. Looking forward to the game starting.

Re: Variant rules game for players who like co-operation

Whatever the rules are going to be, I think all players have to agree that Dioptre (who started the game) gets the final call, but he should announce the rules publicly, here in the forum, before the game starts. After game starts, players are anonymous and we won't know who Dioptre is. Nor would it...
