Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?
Wishing, when you say our coal consumption is minuscule is that a per capita comparison or a cruder comparison that doesn't allow for differences in populations . We Australianns like to think we don't have a big environmental footprint, aren't big energy consumers because we have a relatively small...

I also believe you are way out with your assessment of how long it would take for enriched Thorium technologies to be developed, (possibly a century) This is not still at abstract, theoretical stage, these technologies are in development or in use, albeit limited to India for electricity generation....

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?
I think the estimate on thorium is Australia has about 30% of known global deposits but that was ~15 years ago. So we can choose, it's not as if Uranium is our only horse in the race. With regard to Plutonium, it's not a matter of being precious about an element I may have affection for or not have ...

Re: The Ashes 2021/2022
There's no doubt that The Tourists played well on the third day of the Brisbane Test Match, so those cold Eel pies & warm Lager did the trick, yet may not have been the ideal breakfast for the fourth day. Joe Root & Malan had to face the old ball for ~16 overs to start the 4th day and both well set ...

Re: Is it time to rethink suffrage laws?
You're correct Octavious, it's absurdist comedy from Fluminator. Perhaps like The Tourist's first innings at the Gabba?

Re: Is it time to rethink suffrage laws?
"We tried giving suffrage to all, and look at where the world is now" I wasn't aware that the entire adult population of the world had ALL been voting in relatively corruption free elections, this is encouraging news regarding those enfranchised(?) citizens of numerous totalitarian or corruptly dysf...

Re: The Ashes 2021/2022
Day three. As I start this post Australia are 420runs for 9 wickets and Travis Head is on 147 runs so can Josh Hazelwood just arrived at the wicket hang around long enough for Head to get to, or past 150 runs, yes, Head has hit a 4 at deep midwicket to go to 151 runs. The Tourists might have adopted...

The Ashes 2021/2022
Horrah for another Ashes Test Cricket series, in Australia this time and the Australian bowling attack have dismissed the Tourists for 147 runs in day one at the Gabba in Brisbane in the first innings of Tourists after they won the coin toss and chose to bat first. New Australian captain Pat Cummins...

This is an important discussion, globally, within nations and at the community level, so thank you Kestsas & other contributors to this thread which has mainly discussed this issue in an Australian context. Re: Betrayal Blues
Lovely discussion and it gives me much pleasure to disagree with Octavious. I dislike the stab yet have stabbed, occasionally, I try to avoid the need to stab, minimise my use of it. I believe Diplomacy is about creating alliances to defeat common enemies, share rewards with some equity. I don't bel...

As long as whoever it is who did what is alleged, that it's NOT Kestas, Dargorygel, Maniac or myself is important GOOD NEWS & indicative of the possibility that humanity has some hope of survival.

Re: What REALLY is ghug?
Imagine a world without Ghug? Would that be a world worth living in? Ghug's just around the hill in the opinion of that songwriter. Since The Rutles released "All you need is Ghug" in 1963 musicians have been singing about Ghug. From Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song & Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye to t...
