Re: Site certification expired

Yes, thanks mods + everyone who helped. Not me this time!

When I was a mod, I only felt the paycheck was too low on days where Jamiet made unfounded accusations and was generally belligerent in the forum. But now I don't have to write polite responses, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Re: Site certification expired

Jamiet, it’s good to see that you haven’t become any less ungrateful in the six years since I stopped moderating the site. If you’re still unhappy, I’m sure you’re entitled to a refund on your monthly subscription. Well, I’m sure you’re entitled, at least.

Re: Results if no moves are submitted

It’s only wrong on world. Pretty sure webdip does it “right” for the classic map.

If I recall correctly, there’s a lookup table for it, so it’s probably an easy fix.

I'm 25, which means that back in the good old days around 2015 when my persona shined through on this forum in such lovable, professional ways I was about 8.
Bo, have you considered playing some games to improve your math skills? I recommend Uno.

Re: Do I survive with units but no centers?

The rulebook says that anyone with units on the board is a survivor. Adjustments to remove units happen after centres are counted.

I'm surprised it works this way on webdip, though. I would have thought it would be an elimination. In practice, this subtlety doesn't matter much.

If this is the quality entertainment I have been missing out on by not reading the forum, then, well, I have been missing out.

Re: Is there a way to export or scrape the chat archive?

To compile it nicely, you'd want to include the maps, and probably thread the conversations. If someone wrote a script to do this, it would be very welcome, I'm sure.

Ah, good response. Forgive my mistake, I'm rusty.

I've got my next orders ready to go, but I don't think it's my turn yet, is it?

Re: How often do games draw?

Zultar, I’m pretty sure that’s not what the mod team called you when I was on it... Thanks teccles for doing the legwork on some updated stats! That’s very interesting. I’d be interested to see if three way draws have remained the most common draw type- at least in my games, larger draws now seem mo...

Re: Control the re-entering the game after CD

I’m pretty sure it’s in there. I don’t have time to look right now, but I remember seeing the check in the join game code (have a look for anything that writes to the wd_members table). From memory, the check is not explicit, but implied. If there’s a bug where you are able to take over another powe...

Re: How often do games draw?

Before people point it out, I believe these stats also held true if you only looked at WTA (what we now call DSS) games. This isn't just because of PPSC (Although President Eden's (hi Eden!) point is strong).

Re: How often do games draw?

Three way draws are most common for a variety of reasons, even when all players desire a solo. This is not correct. On webdiplomacy, around 60% of games end in a solo. I can't check the stats today, but in c. 2015 that was the case (even if you remove games with NMRs). I don't think there would be ...

Re: All Diplomacy Scoring Stinks

Risk aversion is incentivized by the GR formula and DSS scoring, In most games, a 5 way draw will give you a GR "win". It's weird though - the way GR works, you lose the same amount for a loss, but you stand to gain more in a "high GR" game from a win or good result. So you'd think that high GR gam...
