Re: new cold 'war'?

Won't this just be a backdoor subsidy to big European companies (e.g. Alstom, Siemens etc.) to build this infrastructure?

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

On the other side we have Jamiet and orathaic, who appear to have paid attention to the concerns about the judge, but don't appear to have followed the facts of the case...like the testimony of Gaige Grosskreutz who admitted that Kyle didn't shoot until he pointed his gun at him... You are right ab...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

Been away for a while and just catching up. It really is weird to have a discussion about a murder case in the USA largely driven by three people that don't live here and who quite clearly didn't follow the facts of the case. On one side we have Octavious who seems oblivious to the concerns about th...

Re: After 20 years of fighting the Taliban

What we have done in Afghanistan is send a massive "fuck you" to the people of the Middle East who, against all common sense and experience, still held the opinion that Western values were something worth aspiring to. We have let them know that we don't give a shit about them. They know that the Ru...

Re: Cookies; accept or deny

Also the GDPR aim/goal that users be able to erase their information is another thing that, like a lot of legislation, seems well intentioned but is full of problems in practice. Would you like games you participated in to be erased because a user wanted his information erased, and for there to be ...

Re: Cookies; accept or deny

Mmmm.. Focusing on cookies I can see how people might want to not have Google Analytics or other advertisers track them, but having every website make you accept cookies is a really backwards way to accomplish that. You are right that it isn't covering every scenario...but it is a start. And for th...

Re: Cookies; accept or deny

I must say, as a user and EU citizen, this law has negatively affected my experience hugely. Every little website which asks me for permission instead of simply looking at my 'do not track' request (is it in the header sent by firefox?). I would much prefer to tweak the setting once in the browser,...

Re: Freedom!

There is all sort of extreme fearmongering going on in Australia at the moment. For example, there is a claim that even if Australia opens at 80% of people over 16 vaccinated, 25K people will die over the next 6 months from COVID...effectively saying that Australia will catch Germany in COVID deaths...

Australians really think Australia didn't lock down soon and hard enough?

Edit: That was to Wusti.

Re: Freedom!

For the first half of the year, Australia had no deaths from COVID (perhaps there was one?). After the initial AZ vaccine rollout started every few weeks there was someone keeling over from the vaccine...which didn't go down too well. Government changed the vaccine advice to indicate that only those...

Never had you down as joining the USA chanting Yanks. I always felt you were better suited to the cream cheese bagel, angry jogger, and chiwawas in a sling fraternity ;)
What about angry walker?? And I don't even own a dog, you insensitive clod!

Re: Freedom!

The Australian strategy has largely been a success. The only obvious drawback being an initially slow vaccination rate which, considering that vaccination is the only way back to normality, is a little baffling. Still, they now seem fairly well on their way to getting to the level of vaccination re...

I think it is a bit of a stretch to suggest that the US got out to let the Taliban mine Lithium for them.

Re: After 20 years of fighting the Taliban

It is a sad indictment of the US political process that Afghanistan was not even mentioned in the 2020 US Presidential debates:

More info on the crazy costs of the Afghan occupation. Apart from the 2 trillion cost, by 2050 it is estimated that the US will likely have to pay 6.5 trillion dollars in interest on this debut. https://www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/afghan-war-cost-us-2-trillion-interest-will-pinch-every-americ...

Re: After 20 years of fighting the Taliban

You're remarkably quick to take Trump's word at face value when he happens to say something you agree with . Out of curiosity, how do you believe Trump made it impossible to stop the withdrawal? Being the commander in chief one imagines that all Biden had to do was say the words "stop the wit...
