Re: Are female superhero movies unpopular because…
It is absolutely nuts how anyone non-white playing the villain role is being seen an racist at the moment. There was recently outrage over the Netflix series Wednesday because two of the mean kids were black...and that must have been driven by racism: https://nypost.com/2022/11/30/tim-burtons-wednes...

Re: US Midterm Elections
Inflation means expenses rising faster than income. I know that poverty is bad Orathaic, I am intimately aware of poverty. This, however, is not the definition of Inflation. Inflation refers to the purchasing power of currency going down- if a dollar is worth less, then less can be exchanged for th...

Re: US Midterm Elections
Popping in for two comments- Inflation hurts the poor the most. Does it? While it would hurt the unemployed and those on disability/social security, "the Poor" is a vague collection. The biggest hits from inflation goes to those who have a ton of capital in money, but no real assets. The poor don't...

People have also argued there is a lot of Christian values in Tolkien:

Tolkien was a devout Catholic.

Divided government...both sides will need to compromise to get anything done. Largely no BS complaints of voter fraud. It has been a quiet day. Also Trump didn't have a good night vs. DeSantis which is awesome. I am not a fan of DeSantis but at least he is rational and level headed. Trump is a narc...

Re: Saurons Armies were more Ethnically diverse than Gondors
A lot of what Tolkien created wasn't original. He reused ideas from older European mythology (dwarves and elves I believe came from German mythology).

Re: Saurons Armies were more Ethnically diverse than Gondors
There is some racism where the dark skin humans are Sauron supporters. In fantasy the "bad guys" are most likely going to look different, most likely ugly too (same with horror). Doesn't mean this was done with racist intent. Oh my goodness. Go back to your cave please. Huh? I am just telling you r...

Re: Saurons Armies were more Ethnically diverse than Gondors
Tolkien had some prominent heroines, Eowyn and Galadriel, but almost all women are off I support positions and not fighters. There is some racism where the dark skin humans are Sauron supporters. How many female warriors do you think there were in middle-ages combat? We shouldn't have to make every...

Re: US Midterm Elections
This election will go down to the wire. Not Election Day, but in January when they are suppose to take office. It will be filled with even more court challenges than in 2020 as each side fights to count or block votes that they think will help their side win. You will have fewer losing candidates w...

Re: What makes your life worth living?
If cognition is an illusion, how could suffering not be an illusion? The rest of the Buddhism section is perhaps more explicit. "Cognition is like a magical illusion (māyā) in the sense that it is insubstantial and cannot be grasped." I don't think it is saying what you think it is saying. I don't ...

There are three sources here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_(religion)#Theravada I have practiced Buddhist meditation as well (many long courses). You aren't meditating because suffering is an illusion or consciousness is an illusion. You are meditating on the concept of anicca, that everythin...

"The Last Starfighter was Robert Preston's final role in a theatrical film. The character of Centauri, a 'lovable con-man', was written with him in mind and was a nod to his most famous role as Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man." Hot DAMN that was a hard one. Oh bollocks! I thought it was him ...
