Re: Outlandish Theory of the Week

You don't see all these issues as related? UK politics revolved around Brexit primarily for half a decade. It was a very special emotionally charged "us vs them" situation. EVERYTHING was Brexit related. So, if I'm understanding you correctly, your argument is that Boris was only good at one specif...

One poll puts Labour up 10 points over Conservatives with Starmer leading Johnson on preferred PM 35% to 23%: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/labour-tory-poll-lead-party-b1992008.html politics.co.uk say the Tories have fallen to their lowest support levels this century: https://www.po...

Re: Outlandish Theory of the Week

Dare I suggest, yes I will suggest that Churchill's post WW2 election loss was about Policy issues. Octavious in my opinion makes some valid points in his post. In my opinion the Conservatives lost because there was a strong desire to "not repeat" what occurred after WW1, and a strong desire to imp...

Re: Outlandish Theory of the Week

But just because he was right for one specific issue...doesn't mean he can't be an absolute numpty for everything else. Right on Brexit, right on how to run the general election, right on how to manage Labour and the Lib Dems in a deadlocked Parliament. This is not a single issue he fluked a right ...

Re: Outlandish Theory of the Week

There is no denying that Boris was brilliant in how he took advantage of Brexit to get to number 10. And he was the only one to rightly recognize there needed to be some brinkmanship to finally get it done. But just because he was right for one specific issue...doesn't mean he can't be an absolute n...

Re: Outlandish Theory of the Week

Perhaps they have always been a bunch of numpties (at least since Boris took over)? Perhaps Boris was a "one issue wonder" on Brexit? We may be only realizing they are numpties now as Brexit fades into the distance and Labour, if I understand correctly, switch to the tried and tested "small target" ...

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?

I believe Wustl is right to claim that Australia has some unique challenges in regards to decarbonization in regards to distances and resources (e.g. water)...which you can't just ignore. You can't waive a magic want to change Sydney (population density 442 people per km) into London (population den...

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?

The whole premise of the thread is wrong, that we need nuclear for "base load". The concept of having "base load" power stations running at full-tilt 24/7 is dead. In a world of renewables (especially when we are looking a decade plus into the future) the idea that new power stations can come online...

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?

Using nuclear power in Australia is pure fantasy. Australians are some of the worst NIMBYs on the planet. No-one will want this near them AT ALL. Just look at the fight that went on with Sydney airport. It took almost 50 years to break ground on it (it was originally proposed in 1973). I remember th...

Re: Official webDip Holiday: On the first day of Xmas, my zultar gave to me

For every TEN +1s that I get for this thread, I will start giving away additional prizes one day after the 25th for 300 points each day. I will give out additional prizes until Dec 31st, and the gift for each day past the 25th is 300 points. If I get 100 +1s, then I will think of a special prize fo...

Re: new cold 'war'?

Are you a little slow today? If Europe decides to give countries money to build infrastructure, I would expect that as part of the condition of the loan or grant they will indicate who these countries can contract with. For example that bridge in Montenegro is being built by a Chinese state owned co...

Won't this just be a backdoor subsidy to big European companies (e.g. Alstom, Siemens etc.) to build this infrastructure?

On the other side we have Jamiet and orathaic, who appear to have paid attention to the concerns about the judge, but don't appear to have followed the facts of the case...like the testimony of Gaige Grosskreutz who admitted that Kyle didn't shoot until he pointed his gun at him... You are right ab...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

Been away for a while and just catching up. It really is weird to have a discussion about a murder case in the USA largely driven by three people that don't live here and who quite clearly didn't follow the facts of the case. On one side we have Octavious who seems oblivious to the concerns about th...

Re: After 20 years of fighting the Taliban

What we have done in Afghanistan is send a massive "fuck you" to the people of the Middle East who, against all common sense and experience, still held the opinion that Western values were something worth aspiring to. We have let them know that we don't give a shit about them. They know that the Ru...

Would you like games you participated in to be erased because a user wanted his information erased, and for there to be ...

Re: Cookies; accept or deny

Mmmm.. Focusing on cookies I can see how people might want to not have Google Analytics or other advertisers track them, but having every website make you accept cookies is a really backwards way to accomplish that. You are right that it isn't covering every scenario...but it is a start. And for th...
