Re: Worst starting country

Nice nickname, I am now "Dip & War". Turkey is hard to kill, but they start the game stuck in a corner and must either kill Austria or Russia to get out of said corner. This requires allies because there are literally not enough provinces to attack from because you are cramped in a corner, while al...

Re: 2024 Gunboat GR Challenge

Wow. Well put DougJoe. Really cool to hear your insights to the game. I won't write quite as much but will review the game from my point of view as well. Thanks. It's not my best work but sometimes I find that keeping the journal helps the thought process during the game. Not 100% sure it did here,...

Re: 2024 Gunboat GR Challenge

Here's my notes from the game, sorry for wall o' text. I actually started this somewhere in 1904, I think, and the first few years are backfill, but after that, it's all live. Some high-level thoughts: Italy did a nice job getting into Por/Spa/Mar for the stalemate line and the draw. I was hoping E/...

It's finally over, a 4 way draw between E/G/I/T.

I drove south/east about 150 minutes to get to 100%. It was pretty cool.

Chess.com = DouglasHudson.

Sweet, Watts, and Peng, you all should have a challenge now. I picked the 7 day/move time control but I usually move faster than that - I like having the time buffer in case RL gets in the way.

Are the issues still happening for people? My two bot games are stuck after turn 1, but I'm also brand new, so I'm not sure if it's user error
I also have a bot game that is still stuck.

Re: Wendy's

Haven't had Wendy's, BK, or McD's in a long time. Last time I had McD's I was disappointed. There's no I-n-O where I live, although there's at least one Freddy's. People around here really seem to like Culver's (which might be a little bit of novelty talking as it's new around here). I haven't tried...

Re: Sandbox Games

How do I switch from one country to another in a sandbox game (i.e. to vote draw)? Currently in my sandbox (SB_Stalemate lines) Russia's on 17, and no matter how many ways I try, I can't switch to another country (say France) to also vote draw. Why do you need to draw a sandbox? Is there a reason d...

Re: Unconventional yet effective/high IQ openings

If you're looking at unconvential openings which aren't strictly inferior to the more 'traditional' ones, it's probably best to look at French openings, because France can do whatever and get away with it. An example of a moveset that is relatively unpopular, but played by Andrew Goff, who won thre...

Re: Curated brass ensemble arrangement for you

https://youtu.be/0WOvxKdIKXw?si=0tRti774DE_jzMeb Pengwinja. I’m not sure I could convince my brass band to play a hot cross buns arrangement for a web forum within a site for an online format or a board game… but I couldn’t get you asking out of my head so I recorded a soulful blues organ arrangeme...

Re: Curated brass ensemble arrangement for you

I like composing, too, but haven't done any thing original in a long time. Here's a few arrangements that I've done over the past few years (nothing is monetized): Debussy, Clair de Lune, chiptune: https://youtu.be/cpCTrGBJHfU Wasserman, X-Men Animated Series, chiptune: https://youtu.be/OEyiPyN4HXA ...

Re: Curated brass ensemble arrangement for you

Thankfully both percussionists are competent enough to switch off on drum set parts... but I will say some of the auxiliary parts are a bit... makeshift. The fun one is cowbell! More cowbell! As for what piece to arrange, my first suggestion is "Everything" from FM-84's album _Atlas_: https://youtu...

Re: Curated brass ensemble arrangement for you

Hello all! Last year I graduated with a degree in music performance, with concentrations on composition and trumpet performance. In the last year, I've struggled at times to find motivation to write in my time away from work and away from like-minded creative minds. I have a simple request that wil...
