Re: Sandbox Games

How do I switch from one country to another in a sandbox game (i.e. to vote draw)? Currently in my sandbox (SB_Stalemate lines) Russia's on 17, and no matter how many ways I try, I can't switch to another country (say France) to also vote draw. Why do you need to draw a sandbox? Is there a reason d...

Re: Unconventional yet effective/high IQ openings

If you're looking at unconvential openings which aren't strictly inferior to the more 'traditional' ones, it's probably best to look at French openings, because France can do whatever and get away with it. An example of a moveset that is relatively unpopular, but played by Andrew Goff, who won thre...

Re: Curated brass ensemble arrangement for you

https://youtu.be/0WOvxKdIKXw?si=0tRti774DE_jzMeb Pengwinja. I’m not sure I could convince my brass band to play a hot cross buns arrangement for a web forum within a site for an online format or a board game… but I couldn’t get you asking out of my head so I recorded a soulful blues organ arrangeme...

Re: Curated brass ensemble arrangement for you

I like composing, too, but haven't done any thing original in a long time. Here's a few arrangements that I've done over the past few years (nothing is monetized): Debussy, Clair de Lune, chiptune: https://youtu.be/cpCTrGBJHfU Wasserman, X-Men Animated Series, chiptune: https://youtu.be/OEyiPyN4HXA ...

Re: Curated brass ensemble arrangement for you

Thankfully both percussionists are competent enough to switch off on drum set parts... but I will say some of the auxiliary parts are a bit... makeshift. The fun one is cowbell! More cowbell! As for what piece to arrange, my first suggestion is "Everything" from FM-84's album _Atlas_: https://youtu...

Re: Curated brass ensemble arrangement for you

Hello all! Last year I graduated with a degree in music performance, with concentrations on composition and trumpet performance. In the last year, I've struggled at times to find motivation to write in my time away from work and away from like-minded creative minds. I have a simple request that wil...

I always assume, when I (very occasionally) make use of an address given to me by webDippers, that the address is actually your aunt's 2nd grade teacher's dog trainer's kitty-corner neighbor.

Would love to see a pic of one of the mugs.
Here are a couple quick shots.

I wonder if the game depicted on one side has any particular significance?
Thanks for posting, those look nice!

I wonder if it is the image that is used on the landing page for non-logged in users?

Re: 1v1 map idea, England vs. Turkey

vDiplomacy has a variant for England versus Turkey:

https://www.vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=62

The starting position of the English units is different that normal and according to the stats England has won more games.

I almost guessed Sun Wukong earlier when I guessed Chee-chee (I googled "fictional primates" and he is on the very short list) but it turns out I read the chart at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primate
wrong and thought Monkeys were Hominids. Good pick KotP and good sleuthing Sparty!

This will be Q 20. Does anyone wish to make further guesses?
Revised free guess: Chee-chee, the Francois' Langur from the 50's comic _Tor_.

Re: A game?

Cooperative games seem to be all the rage lately... what about a game with both cooperative and competitive aspects, so you can win as an individual but if you sabotage your opponents too much you all end up losing? Has this been done before? There was a game I played a while back named Hellapagos ...

Can you please explain what is the crusher opening for turkey? I think he's referring to Turkey's Spring 1901 orders of Con-Bul, Ank-BLA, Smy-Arm, which I believe is colloquially known as the "Crimean Crusher". Re: 20 questions, round 204: 7-way showdown!

That was a cool idea for a round!

I was thinking the other day about how many Diplomacy place names are in my home state of Michigan (both towns and townships):
Smyrna, Livonia, Moscow, Holland x 3, Rome, London, Paris, Venice, Clyde x 2, Vienna x 2, Berlin x 3.
