Re: Daffy Old MM & Local Council Election

I don't have time to explain the virtues of compulsory voting Antipodean style, the fundamental point is, we don't like shirkers when it comes to participation in our Democracy that Australians have created, shaped and defended. If you want to.live hete and enjoy it's benefits you participate I ful...

Re: Who bombed the Nordstream Pipeline?

This was the South West Energy & Environment Group, around 15 years ago. They put in a lot of work into carbon equivalent footprints of various methods of energy production, taking a holistic view including embedded carbon, losses in transport, the actual burning of the stuff etc etc. Hydroelectric ...

Indeed so. The timing of the Nordstream incident coinciding with the opening of the Baltic Pipe is unlikely to be a coincidence.

Re: Who bombed the Nordstream Pipeline?

Aside, environmentally this is a disaster, how much natural gas was in the pipes even while off? Possibly the highest peak of methane in history. Possibly the largest single event, but in the grand scheme of things I doubt it's particularly significant. The dirty secret of the gas industry is that ...

Re: Who bombed the Nordstream Pipeline?

Well, that rules out the Yanks. If they wanted to do it and didn't care who knows they would have just done it and said it was them, and if they wanted to do it secretly they wouldn't have had their President mention the possibility before hand. It could be Russia. They have been playing with the Eu...

Re: Daffy Old MM & Local Council Election

Alas, compulsory voting is a red line issue for me. I am unable to lend my vote to anyone in favour of it. I fear you have to deduct my vote from your tally. (I forget how the Australian system works, but I have a notion that British votes count for 10... or at least some number with a zero in it)

Re: 20 Questions - Game 58

The contrary view would suggest that a book about the 1970 World Cup Final is not a book about Brazilian international footballers. This would be an absurd attitude. It depends on your point of view, I guess. Is Jaws a film about a shark, or a film about something else that happens to have a shark ...

Re: Are female superhero movies unpopular because…

I struggle with Rings Of Power because one of the Hobbits is Lenny Henry, and it's impossible for any Brit to watch it without thinking "that's Lenny Henry attempting some kind of Irish accent..." and it takes you right out of the universe. In terms of it being boring, I suggest you reread The Counc...

Never even heard of Futurama.....
It's essentially a cartoon sci-fi show centred around the adventures of a janitor called Scruffy. It's pretty good.

Re: What makes your life worth living?

I like a good tabernacle as much as the next man, don't get me wrong, but I confess that neither the tabernacle of the Lord, nor the awning of Allah, nor even Buddha's basha, add significantly more worth to life. The portaloo of Pan, now... People come for the tabernacle, but they give thanks to the...

I tend to pop on as and when required, but typical times will be

1/ when on the crapper
2/ when taking public transport
3/ when making a cuppa
4/ when Mrs Oct is insisting that we watch something like Bake Off

Ah... so we're potentially looking at a character from a famous film which had a load of not particularly well known sequels.

Guess: Is it the Robert the Bruce of the skies, commonly known as the Luck Dragon?

Re: What makes your life worth living?

Philosophers would say that, wouldn't they? A class of people whose chief goal in life is to convince the rest of us that they should be well paid for sitting in a comfy chair and thinking, come up with the idea that what they happen to enjoy doing is in fact the key to human existence. The only sur...
