Re: Begun, the porn wars have
This has been something of an eye opener. I had no idea OnlyFans had cookery and fitness content. Jamie, you're a guide to a whole new world. It seems strange that this battle between governments and the porn Barons (a reassuringly old fashioned term for villains) comes at a time when ai threatens t...

Re: Masked Law Enforcement
I suppose you could draw the conclusion that Bert and Jamie are foreigners to the US just trying to constantly find things to pick on the Trump administration for... but I think that would be somewhat dishonest. For them, the interest is likely one of "if this can happen there, a) what will happen ...

As you're not a Brit, Berti, those responses are entirely appropriate. But you're not a Yank either

Re: Masked Law Enforcement
Octavious, if this thread doesn't interest you, you are welcome to not post in it. My interest is in trying to figure out why it's interesting. When I was working as a permitting officer for the UK chemical industry there was a well established chemical plant just off the motorway in Birmingham tha...

Re: Masked Law Enforcement
It just seems that a change in uniform policy of a foreign law enforcement group is a strange thing to prioritise. In a month where the British government have introduced abortion laws more extreme than pretty much anywhere in Europe, assisted suicide is being brought in, we're apparently going to b...

Re: Masked Law Enforcement
I know you've found a comfortable angle with the gun thing to make an argument that's doesn't land specifically the Trump admin Oh yes. There's nothing that shows unwavering loyalty to Trump like being anti-gun. If I was in the US you'd no doubt see me front and centre at MAGA rallies proudly weari...

Re: Masked Law Enforcement
I still can't get my head around the mentality that insists that wearing masks, that are designed to protect officers from having their images and identities posted online and themselves and their families receiving death threats, is beyond the pale... Whereas officers being armed with guns, specifi...

Re: South Korean Teenagers Detained Over Deepfake Sexual Images
Presumably sexually explicit deep fakes of real people? The crime being abusing someone's image rather than AI characters taking jobs from porn stars? It raises a few interesting questions. The intent to distribute kind of implies that they consider making deep fakes for personal use acceptable... w...

Re: When I watch the Patriot I root for the British
It was a colonial uprising. Both sides were British.
It's set in Berkeley County, isn't it? I was having a chat with the Berkeley's the other day. They're quite understanding of you lot borrowing it for a few hundred years, but they'd quite like it back now

Re: Masked Law Enforcement
I know very little about this topic, but the bare minimum I expect from a law enforcement officer is not to turn up to where I live with a gun. The mask thing is an issue, but such an infinitely smaller issue that it's quite hard to get excited about that in particular. In much the same way that if ...

Re: War, what is it good for?
I don't know that it's a bad habit. It is all part of his strategy of twisting reality to how he wants it by sheer force of will and shouting. Mrs Oct's Nan uses a very similar strategy, particularly at Christmas, to terrifying effect.

Re: War, what is it good for?
It's worth keeping in mind that Uranium is a naturally occurring element and can be found in small levels pretty much everywhere. There is likely enough naturally occurring Uranium in the mountain to build a bomb, and it's never done anyone any harm. Uranium itself breaks down via alpha decay (fine ...

Of course, with all the excitement over Iran virtually no one has been discussing the other big story of the weekend

Re: War, what is it good for?
If Iran has any sense they'll fire a barrage of missiles at US targets, taking great care that they are the sort of targets that can robustly defend themselves with anti missile systems so no one gets killed. That will hopefully be the end of it as far as US direct action will go. I'm cautiously opt...

Re: War, what is it good for?
I'm curious to hear your view on the situation Oct. No doubt I harass you too much on some topics, but I'm genuinely curious for an Oct's-eye-view on the situation. Did Israel err in striking Iran? What should the US, UK, etc. do? The UK should stay out of it as much as possible. Not our business. ...

Re: War, what is it good for?
Trump has threatened nothing of the sort. It's a Guardian article that casts doubts on the capability of bunker busting bomb, and specifically states Trump isn't considering nuclear weapons. You have an official being questioned about it and he's desperately trying to quash the rumour that the much ...

Re: War, what is it good for?
That's not exactly right. We have seen how MAD reduced the number of arms between soviets and NATO in the past. We also have seen what happened when only one side of a war possessed nukes. Not really. When the US was the only nation with nukes in a war a nuclear winter was impossible, and indeed an...

Re: War, what is it good for?
Ukraine chose no nukes at all, and I don't think that their experience was particularly pleasant.
