Re: new cold 'war'?

I don't know if i would characteris what I said as an allegation, merely a question. It is again something i haven't been paying much attention to, so i just get a few big news stories which filter through here. And yes, the dire positive on of the Labour party, and the inherent 2 party-ness of the ...

Re: new cold 'war'?

^ We can go into this in much more detail if anyone is interested. Do be warned that this conversation gets quite dry quite quickly. Source: I am a member of the UK State Aid Law Association and the Procurement Lawyers' Association and have published articles on UK and EU public procurement policy....

Re: new cold 'war'?

Won't this just be a backdoor subsidy to big European companies (e.g. Alstom, Siemens etc.) to build this infrastructure? That would make sense... Would it? I don't suppose you could explain how? What flash said. The same mechanism by which US military aid flows back to IS arms exporters (and thus ...

Re: new cold 'war'?

The UK' disasterous trade war is brewing but would also not be considered a 'cold war' because it is not between two super powers, which i believe was the characteristic of the Cold War...

Out of curiosity, in what sense is this a cold war?
Just hanging n the sense that the title of the BBC news article was written to make it sound like the EU is only doing this to compete with China.

Which may indeed be the case...

new cold 'war'?

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-59473071 Is this kind of competition between (economic) superpowers actually good? Will this increase economic influence, or does that require publishing debt to extract value and hold leverage over others? Can increased trade and investment help avoid future co...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

This doesn't mean there is no problem. There absolutely is and the anger is justified. Then we are down to a question of tactics. Thank you flash for your long and detailed responce. I hope the more settled state of affairs post Trump continues and is widespread, rather than a local phenomenon in y...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

So, in this particular location, what the defendant did was to bring a tool of self defence to a place where there was a significant risk to his person. You seem to he missing my point. The point isn't that he had a gun, the point is he intention ally decided to go somewhere to use the gun to shoot...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

On the other side we have Jamiet and orathaic, who appear to have paid attention to the concerns about the judge, but don't appear to have followed the facts of the case...like the testimony of Gaige Grosskreutz who admitted that Kyle didn't shoot until he pointed his gun at him... You are right ab...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

Vigilante violence undermined the justice system, and i am not a weird outlier in saying so: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/commentisfree/2021/nov/19/kyle-rittenhouse-verdict-acquitted-protest And whether legal or not, his actions are morally reprehensible (i would argue his actions we're not s...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

How and ever, those who see the clear injustice will rise up and fight to overturn this failure of a justice system. And perhaps i should be clear. I am not calling for violence, i am predicting that a new civil rights movement focused on eliminating white supremacy will march, protest, and attempt...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

If I was looking for evidence that someone had fascist tendencies, then one of the more obvious giveaways would be a contempt for the cornerstones of democracy such as trial by jury. You can have contempt for the result without being facistic. The fact that the system is 'working as designed' and t...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

To repeat the words of President Biden, who on occasion is still able to make sensible comments, the jury system works and we have to abide by it. Bit of a non responce from you, which shouldn't really surprise me at this stage. I asked a direct question, i shouldn't have expected a direct answer. ...

Re: USA, a fascist state? Confirmed

Given the number of unarmed black folks in the US wh have been shot for far less, he wouldn't even have gotten a trial.

And given that the protest he attacked and murdered two people at was about this disparity, i am frankly surprised that more of the US wasn't burning last night.

Re: War, what is it good for?

Also, it is noteworthy that (by some measure) we are not the only species to engage in warfare. Troupes of 20-30 male chimps have been know to go into neighbouring territory and kill other chimps they find there. Even attacking groups of Gorillas (and killing and eating at least one baby gorilla). I...

Re: War, what is it good for?

@taylor, you seem to be neglecting the main development which lead to war being possible/common place. Once you arm a group of individuals within your society you must feed them. As such you need a surplus of food (though many early groups pressed farmers into service for part of the year, these arm...
