Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

That's all folks! The last gunboat game has just wrapped in a draw between California, Eastern Canada, Yorkshire Puddings, and Greatest Lakes. Which means the winner of the tournament is The Yorkshire Puddings! They have had an absolutely spectacular run of the tournament, placing in every single dr...

Re: webDiplomacy.net new server

And another thing I noticed just now: the dates are off. I finished https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=366522 yesterday and https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=366576 today. Those games state they're finished on Sunday 11 July and Monday 12 July, respectively. However, today is Friday ...

Re: webDiplomacy.net new server

Hey guys for stuff like RR impacts just send an email to the mods and we'll take care of it. Let's try to keep this thread focused on any actual bugs themselves.

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

Most up-to-date scores with the GB1 draw and a couple more 1v1s in the book. 1. Yorkshire Puddings - 462.5 2. Prosecco - 400.5 3. Eastern Canada - 339 4. Great Lakes - 133 5. Greatest Lakes - 40 6. Sons of Vlad - 40 7. California - 20 However, for our bottom 3 teams a solo in the remaining full pres...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

As if a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders, the last 1v1s have been made, and should be starting tomorrow. The regular games are in their final stages, and I've updated the scores below. Puddings - 366 Prosecco - 325 Eastern Canada - 264 Great Lakes - 113 Sons of Vlad - 40 California - 20...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

Heh, that was a month and a half ago, HB. But I suppose its time I give an update. Yorkshire Puddings is in the lead, helped by a perfect record in 1v1. Their last matchup is vs. Prosecco. Can the Italians channel their inner Caesar and conquer Britannia? Much of the rest of the standings is driven ...

Re: Message Composition

Depends upon the nature of the message. If we're arguing over stalemate lines and stab possibilities, I study quite carefully. In the early game I almost never do. But if you're playing as long as I have, then you have the maps and openings all memorized anyways. A newer player should consult freque...

Re: Omnipresent Zultar's fantastic Holiday Diplomacy Game

Well, I'll give my shot at a much abridged EoG, as my part in this game was rather limited. I walked into a France under attack from all sides after Spring 02. After some desperate communications, I get a clear commitment from Italy to save my life, which I would spend the rest of the game repaying....

Re: Anyone else think England’s more dangerous to Germany than France?

I think those analyses are valid, but slightly off-point for this question. It does make sense that locking down French centers first leads to more wins than trying to lock them down later (as sword was saying). It also makes sense that France gets a greater boost in win percentage than England from...

Re: Anyone else think England’s more dangerous to Germany than France?

I'm definitely guilty of having an anti-England meta as Germany. I've just been burned too many times by a fleet slipping into Hel or Ska.

Frankly, the best move is to set England and France at war, grab all of Scandinavia before England can, and then stab France with Italy/Turkey.

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

Whoever checked all their tournament games within 5 minutes of jmo unblocking everything, I appreciate your zeal, but unfortunately it prevented me from pausing these games and adding time back. I don't believe it matters much for the gunboats or 1v1s, but for our full press game, I do not know what...

Great! How about the FvAs?
FvA's should have already started. I know the Yorkshire Puddings vs California one is ongoing - I was going to chide team captains in my coming message this weekend issuing the second round of matchups.

All games have been running. I will check and scramble now as needed. Unpause and launch will be in roughly 12 hours except for the public press game, which will remain paused until a Sunday launch.

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

Just so everyone's aware, one team's members need to delay start until mid-week, so won't be joining until then. Again, I'll be avoiding starting any games until all are joined, so as to avoid giving away any potential partial information.
