Re: webDiplomacy.net new server
And another thing I noticed just now: the dates are off. I finished https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=366522 yesterday and https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=366576 today. Those games state they're finished on Sunday 11 July and Monday 12 July, respectively. However, today is Friday 9...

Re: webDiplomacy.net new server
Hi Nescio, Did you put in any votes or did you have any votes going before it started processing in a loop? The issue should be resolved, but if this happened due to you placing a vote it would make sense, but if it happened spontaneously there might be something strange going on with the bot votin...

Re: webDiplomacy.net new server
Changes are being made to the game processor to prevent game locking issues. You may notice live games not processing immediately; processing should complete in less than a minute. About half an hour ago, I experienced a problem similar to @desdemona22's : I went into civil disorder in a bot game: ...

Re: Bot openings
We always consider Turkey the least flexible nation in terms of opening moves (and it's true). However, from this data you could also argue it's Russia due to having the highest percentage for a single moveset. You seem to be using an unusual definition of flexibility . Perhaps you meant predictabi...

Bot openings
Recently I wondered which openings the bots prefer and whether individual bots favour different moves. Therefore I went through the (100) bot games I've completed so far and wrote down the Spring 1901 orders. (Yes, I realize it's a quite small sample, yet it's better than nothing.) Here are the resu...

Re: unexpected draw
Furthermore, the “all game stats” on my user profile says I'm playing 1 game, which simply isn't true, and the finished games total is 1 off. I strongly suspect the game I reported in the opening post (i.e. 359972 ) is the culprit. Could a moderator or someone else cancel (or even better, restart) t...

Re: What is the best country in bot games?
And I'm now at one hundred games against bots. Here are the results (i.e. solo victories): Turkey : 6 / 10 = 0.6 Italy : 6 / 12 = 0.5 Germany : 5 / 11 = 0.455 France : 4 / 11 = 0.364 Austria : 6 / 21 = 0.286 Russia : 3 / 21 = 0.143 England : 2 / 15 = 0.133 all : 32 / 101 = 0.317 Compare this with my...

Re: unexpected draw
The game ended the exact moment the build phase began, there was never an oppurtunity to enter build orders. And moves and retreats were submitted and processed.
By the way, ordinarily there are no red exclamation marks when a game is drawn, e.g. https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=359813

unexpected draw
https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=359972 was unexpectedly drawn:
However, if you look at the game, you'll see all players (the bots and myself) actually did submit orders.GameMaster wrote:Game was drawn due to at all remaining members failing to enter orders.

Is it possible to un-draw bot games?
Occassionally I click the Draw button when I don't actually want to draw. Against bots draws are sometimes processed immediately, sometimes only after a couple of years, which is a bit unpredictable when not paying attention. https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=355859 (Autumn 1901) should have...

Re: Anyone else think England’s more dangerous to Germany than France?
As others pointed out already, the main thing is you shouldn't allow England and France to ally against you: better let them fight each other while you focus on Russia. Keep in mind Germany doesn't really have to conquer England to win, nor does it need the French centres for a solo-victory (althoug...

Re: webDiplomacy's interpretation of the victory rules
While I understand bots behave differently, I assumed the games were processed the same way as against humans.
Nevertheless, could the draw check be performed after the defeat and solo-victory checks?

Re: What is the best country in bot games?
Those are definitely some interesting approaches to Austria! Interesting to see that you've had the most success with the "common" Ser/Alb/Gal. I'd be interested to see the Rum/Alb/Tri solo if you care to provide a link. That I won win the Ser, Alb, Gal opening a few times is at least partially bec...

Re: webDiplomacy's interpretation of the victory rules
This game where Austria drew in your opening post actually also looks weird - the orders say the retreats happened, but on the board Vienna is still red and Austria has 1 centre. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't see how that can happen - according to my understanding Austria would be elimin...

Re: What is the best country in bot games?
Nice, thanks for sharing as well! 5 out of 17 as Austria seems pretty good! Apparently my Germany needs work, because everyone else I've read seems to think Germany is easy. Austria and Germany have the advantage they're in the centre of the map and therefore have many ways to expand. Provided not ...

Re: What is the best country in bot games?
Question: do you all play all the way through, even if you're clearly done for? I understand this is good practice to do that. “Good practice” as in “good sport” or in “good exercise”? It depends. I'll always issue orders, of course. The objective of the game is to win by controlling the majority o...

Re: Bot games don't draw
It's perfectly reasonable players can't cancel games against bots whenever they please. That would be quite prone to abuse: just cancel any game you're not winning to get your solo-victories count to 100%. Moreover, there is a risk of misclicks, since the cancel button is close to other buttons, and...

Re: webDiplomacy's interpretation of the victory rules
I am a very serious person when it comes to Diplomacy and I assure you this approaches "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" territory. While the first example (surviving with 0 units) is unusual, the second (surviving with 0 centres) is not uncommon, it happened in in 7 out of 60 games...

Re: webDiplomacy's interpretation of the victory rules
“That, of course, contradicts Calhamer's opinion that the players who share equally in the draw are those that theoretically could still win the game.”
... which is exactly why I think players with 0 centres shouldn't count as survivors and shouldn't be included in a draw.
