Re: Screwed up orders

I agree, I am strongly against allowing new players to enter invalid orders. There is a very simple and useful placeholder move called a "hold" that allows you to not do something with a unit, and it is much less confusing than allowing Smyrna to move to Liverpool by land.

Re: I'm back... and I'm sorry

Squigs, if you can tell me where your old guide for a Mac Docker image setup for a local webDiplomacy instance is, all is forgiven on my end. I know it's somewhere :?

Re: Name a town in Rhode Island that is not a suburb of Providence

Monahan's Clam Shack in Narrangansett is delectable, as the redneck version of British people in Rhode Island would say.

Re: Site certification expired

It's good to see that the same love and warmth I felt from day to day back in 2015 still exists. I'm sorry that the certificates are expired and I'm sorry that the site is down. Renewing certificates is an extremely easy (and automated) task, but we are mired down by a set of extenuating circumstanc...

Re: Bot games don't draw

Perhaps the offense, as has often been the case if I my memory of our conversations of the past serves me correctly, is drawn not from what you say but how you say it. You'd think someone who parades around wearing their expensive and hard-earned credentials on their sleeve would understand that whi...

Re: Bot games don't draw

I'm glad to see how appreciated the thousands of hours and thousands of dollars spent on artificial intelligence and reinforcement learning implementation featured in numerous research papers and articles worldwide is on this site. Can't figure out the implementation my ass. As everyone here underst...

They'll cancel or draw if they're losing, but if any of them are beating the human player they will not match your vote.

I think mods need to make the "ready" button bigger. The players may have missed it.
I told jmo years ago that as our "old guard" actually got old, we'd have to code for all those people who refuse to get glasses.

Re: What Do Dip Players Do in Real Life?

Dang bo_sox, Way to kill a thread man. Lol I'm flattered, but I promise you it's hardly different from the norm - working remotely gives me time and freedom to travel (and still work), and I use PTO for the crazy stuff just like anyone else. I am stubbornly stuck on the things I'm passionate about ...

Re: What Do Dip Players Do in Real Life?

I’m a software developer, formerly of the Fortune 500 brand but currently in a small but established startup operating out of Chicago. I work remotely so I’m in Colorado. I spend my spare time either hiking and climbing in the mountains or grilling out in the backyard while staring at the mountains....

Re: Texas got what it deserved

Texas utilities, including ERCOT, are regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Texas. Their effectiveness at regulating is up for interpretation, but to suggest that ERCOT along with Texas telecomms and utilities are not heavily regulated is asinine. Rick Perry certainly did his best to remov...

Re: Texas got what it deserved

Well if we take a look at some empirical evidence, you have 49 states, most of which deal with much worse than Texas just did every year, that didn't have power fluctuations, didn't see any grid outages and only small grid weaknesses in far colder conditions, and didn't risk the collapse of basic ci...

Re: Texas got what it deserved

There was a colder weak polar vortex event in 1899, so this event had precedence in Texas even if it is unusual. Under strong -AO, a meteorologist would expect a weak polar vortex and perhaps a cold dam in February of all times. A month following a sudden stratospheric warming we expect cold outbrea...

Re: Gamestop, AMC, and the Angry Hedge Funds

The fact that people are actually saying that all these hedge fund managers are held accountable for breaking the rules like a month after worst-person-on-Earth Steve Cohen bought a baseball team in New York City and was cheered on as the rich guy here to save the day is just laughable.

but if 10 hedge fund managers sat together in a ritzy hotel lobby drinking obscenely expensive scotch and agreed to pump and dump a stock and agreed on profit targets, is that market manipulation?
