Re: Banned from the forums!

Just powered up Skype and asked this prompt, "Please provide me with a highfalutin, sophisticated and humorous rationale for banning a forum user." Certainly! Here's a playful and sophisticated rationale for banning a forum user: In the grand assembly of this distinguished forum, where the exchange ...

Also, the geographical name for the United Kingdom's home islands is not Great Britain but the British Isles.
Try to tell that to the Irish! ;-)

Re: Twenty Questions game 221

Nice! My degree is in Political Science, and we read "The Prince" as part of our political philosophy course. Macchiavelli gets a bum rap from those who say he was an immoral schemer. He was not talking about what politicians should do ethically; he was talking about what effective politicians do d...

Re: Turkey as the Ottoman Empire

The map/game isn't strictly based on 1901. If it were, France would control Tunis and North Africa, Russia would control Finland, Turkey would control Albania and Bulgaria would have no south coast, etc. The year 1901 is used because it is easier to count the number of elapsed years in a game with ...

Re: Turkey as the Ottoman Empire

Has anyone ever wondered why a game based on 1901 Europe only as Austria as Austria instead of Austria-Hungary and we have turkey as turkey and not the Ottoman Empire? We even have Constantinople as opposed to Istanbul As Pengwinja said, the rulebooks refer to "Austria-Hungary (hereafter referred t...

Re: Twenty Questions: Game 220

Fair enough, but if someone was born there in 1400, they weren't born in a locality in Mexico, because Mexico didn't exist yet. They were born in what would one day become part of Mexico. I actually drafted the question to be a little longer, something like: "Born in a city or locality [that is cur...

Re: Twenty Questions game 221

Born Before 100 AD? This seems likely to be a wasted question, since we know they're a native speaker of Latin/Romance, but but not born in the Roman state. Can you think if someone born before 100 who fits that? Good point. Let's scratch that. Apologies I mean, Romulus and Remus, but yeah

Re: Twenty Questions: Game 220

The phrasing is still vague. For example, Teotihuacan is a city within the current borders of Mexico, but it's not "a city in Mexico". I've been to Teotihuacán. It's very much a real "locality" in Mexico. See for yourself the definition of locality if you like: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dicti...

Re: Twenty Questions: Game 220

(Not a question for the QM.) These questions are a bit vague considering that this person is dead and we don't know how old they are. Would someone born in Roman Gaul be counted as born in "France", for example? The way that I phrased it wasn't vague. For example, Lugdunum (Lyon) is a locality of t...

Pikachu is a rodent, specifically a mouse. Source? Acc to Wikipedia, Pikachu is a "fictional species." And it attacks by shooting lightning, an ability I've been unable to find in any extant rodent species. True, but the original Pokémon trading cards are still extant, and it's printed right on them.

Re: N questions, game K, s.t. 19<N<21, 215<K<217, and N, K are integers

Is this a fictional version of an animal that exists in the real world? (I think that I saw someone use this with the following example: Garfield would give a "Yes." answer - cats are real - but Pikachu would give a "No." answer.) That was my example from about 10 games ago :-D Pikachu is a rodent,...

I've never been a mod, but I think that it's perfectly fine and natural to remind somebody to reply to your press. If it's a full press game, you could even exchange private messages without setting off alarm bells. At least that's what the culture here used to be like. On the other hand, I should p...

I changed my opinion about how convoying to adjacent province must be handled, leading to a different outcome for test case 6.G.8 and 6.G.11. But don’t worry, this is as relevant to actual play, as particle physics is for cooking a meal. Well, you say that it's not relevant, but I almost always ord...
