Re: PHP 8.4 compatibility, caching and messaging change
Hi JECE, I've sorted that out, issue with resolving paths (which is a pain with phpBB unfortunately, it's making phpBB updates a headache also)

Re: PHP 8.4 compatibility, caching and messaging change
Thanks, that should be fixed now.
Getting quite a few minor bugs coming through; from 7.4 to 8.4 a lot of things that used to be okay no longer work like using variables that aren't declared, which are hard to find without running through every part of the code. Luckily they're all quick fixes

PHP 8.4 compatibility, caching and messaging change
Hi, webDiplomacy.net has been updated to run on PHP8.4, from PHP7.4, and to change the internal caching system to use Redis instead of memcached and internal messaging system to use SSE instead of websockets. These changes will make webDiplomacy more sustainable and maintainable, but it is a major u...

Re: bots responding to you
There is now a queue function for the full press bots, info here: https://webdiplomacy.net/contrib/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6072 But it's different to a gunboat game which is much quicker and you can start and stop very quickly. I've also done some optimization which should make the gunboat games...

Full press queue
I've added a queuing system for full-press bots so that people can get fairer access. On the new bot game page there's this area at the bottom that lets you see what games are running and some basic stats (the bots are pretty chatty): Screenshot from 2025-04-05 23-35-46.png Click at the top to join ...

Re: Game not processing - 31st of March 2025
Apologies the server was grinding to a halt recently. I thought it was the server was being attacked because there was a huge number of bot games that wasn't realistic, but looking into it in more detail today turns out the sandbox games has been accumulating over time and clogging things up, being ...

Re: Full Press bots never ready
Yep they're always chugging away.. really want to be able to put some time into them, at least to add a queue system so people can get in a queue for them, but they're always generating messages and working away. I'm sure with a few weeks effort they could do 10-100x the output; my GPU is really und...

Re: Trump signs executive order to rebuild the Death Star
I'm curious if we've got any elderly around does this time feel really bizarre and unhinged, or did it feel this way when Ronald Reagan got into power or when the world was on the brink of nuclear war?

Re: Details of NMR Disbands (Winter)
Yep this was the only real change in the latest version of the rules, and unfortunately we're not yet compliant. I did write an update a while ago, but at the time there were performance issues and I wanted to rule that change out so I rolled it back. Now that the performance issues are sorted (turn...

Re: Country choice question
If you're interested in the specifics (and how could you not be?) it isn't totally random, as people used to complain that there's no way they could be randomly getting the same country again and again. To make it seem more random, and give people a better chance of more variety, the system gives yo...

Re: Full press bots dead?
The bots apologising for missing a few turns, hallucinating some excuses as obviously they don't know they've just moved house. Wish I was more realistic about how long it would take, I would've put the games on pause.. but webDip hasn't been top of the priority list over the last few days to be bru...

Re: Full press bots dead?
Yep apologies I've been moving house. I naively thought it would take two days.. Not quite.. I've got internet now, we're powering up, the bots are going to be up and chatting soon. Trust me they exist :| If you've been trying and unable to get a spot for that long we clearly need to do something ab...

Re: Full Press bots never ready
Please let me know the game ID if you are having troubles with the full press bots. Hopefully things have been fairly stable, but the full press bots are very, very resource intensive; it's about 15 minutes for one bot to process, and in each game there are 6 bots, so it's like an hour and a half of...

Re: Play against AI not advancing
Yeah something weird is going on with the docker image, it halted yesterday afternoon with no reason in the logs and was a real pain to get going again, it happened again this morning again with no reason, but not I know how to restart it and work around the issues. I think I want to erase the image...

Re: Dead AI?
No worries. Also it seemed to be delaying sending messages unnecessarily, I think the code was written assuming messages had to be reviewed and had to have human-like delays between messages. This was causing a bot-player to generate a valid message, then waiting for their next turn 50 bot-players l...

Re: Dead AI?
The active game # was a red herring, each bot things its in its own game, so there were 50 bots running not 50 games. Issue was a bot for Austria was in a game in Diplomacy phase with 0 units and 0 SCs; the bot system said the player is dead and removed it, then the server provided the player as ali...
