Re: AI performance

I'm not sure how I missed this post, but I'm happy to provide some feedback on the new Fairbot. It's not broken, first of all. In fact, it's response time is quite a bit faster. The old Fairbot would often take 10-15 minutes to enter orders in the mid-to-late game stages. The new Fairbot enters orde...

Re: Fairbot vs FB

It seems to me they have toned down the bot's skill level considerably. The old Fairbot (FB) was close to unbeatable. It played over 5,000 games and won 80% of them. It drew another 12%. I suspect the majority of those draws were games it would have won had they continued to a solo or stalemate. The...

Re: My created game doesn't show up

^^^^^ This.

If you go to Games / My Games, the new game you created should be there.

Re: My created game doesn't show up

Did you scroll through the entire list of new games, all pages? Your new game won't be at the top of the list, because the games now display in descending pot size order.

Re: Is Turkey too powerful?

I am new to the site and wonder if I can find somewhere succes rates of all powers in practice-games with bots (all games played on webdip). It's an interesting question. As far as I know, no one has done that analysis for the 100,000+ classic bot games played on webdip. (Yes, that's not a typo.) I...

I was following from the beginning. Congratulations! Not easy to solo against this caliber of opponents, with this size pot.

Re: Austria vs Bots

I completed my Russia game. Mostly it was an R/T vs. A/I, except Germany moved hard against me in 1902. I lost Warsaw, but with some good guesses, I was able to turn away the German attack and recover my position. By then, however, A/I had grown quite strong. Austria soon took SEV, Warsaw and Moscow...

Re: Austria vs Bots

Have played a bit further. Will recap now. Spring Movements 1904 My plan to stab Austria here would have been a better choice, but even then, I would have picked up Trieste, and still lost the fleet, and then would have promptly lost Ionian as well. Autumn Movements 1904 Now looking at this, Russia...

Re: US Midterm Elections

Popping in for two comments- Inflation hurts the poor the most. Does it? While it would hurt the unemployed and those on disability/social security, "the Poor" is a vague collection. The biggest hits from inflation goes to those who have a ton of capital in money, but no real assets. The poor don't...

Re: Austria vs Bots

Scmoo, it's great you're doing one! Interesting opening, too. I'm surprised that you're able to do a tricky cooperative opening like that with the bot. A lot of human Austrian players would have seen VEN-->TRI and flipped on Italy immediately. In your current position, as you mentioned, you kind of ...

Re: Austria vs Bots

Congrats! I agree that doing the write ups takes a long time (and, personally, and I can't do it on my cell phone because I have stupid thumbs). I quite enjoyed reading yours. Kinda interning that in this game you didn't end up having to take any Russian centers. Likewise, Doug, I've enjoyed your w...

Spr '23, I'll take shots at all 3 potential 18th centers: Munich, Holland and Portugal, and see what happens: https://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=439208&turn=44&mapType=large 2 out of 3 ain't bad ... Re: Austria vs Bots

So, I forgot about Germany's build, from the Spring destruction of its Picardy army. One of the perils of taking a long time between moves (and of being old). Ironically, it's now quite a bit easier to go after MAO, and more difficult to go after Holland/Kiel. For Spr '22, I'll focus on MAO and Spa...

Re: Austria vs Bots

Curiosity might get me killed in this situation, but I think I prefer Pic - Bel w/ Burgundy supporting, Paris supports Brest to hold, and you hold off on Spain until you have Tunis to North Africa, and are definitely in Marseilles. That extra army in France will be massive as you'll be able to slid...

On the Classic map, the big explosion means a unit was destroyed during the Winter adjustments phase. The little one means a unit was dislodged.

Re: Austria vs Bots

* * * I am thinking to build another fleet, and push Ionian Sea into the action zone around MAO, Spain, and Portugal. I'm also debating whether to sacrifice position in France if it allows me to capture Portugal and Spain in 1921 and destroy the most valuable English fleet on the board: MAO-->POR G...

Re: Austria vs Bots

I don't see how you could have "hitched your wagon" to Germany in F02. You had no units to spare. You could have diverted units north to prop up Germany and stall England, but then you wouldn't have made any progress against Austria. Supporting Turkey into Serbia in S02 might have been good. It's v...
