Re: US authoritarianism

What will the new administration do reverse authoritarian trends? Will they demilitarize the police? Will they end mass incarceration? These are dehumanizing policies which contribute to an authoritarian and perhaps fascist culture. As an outside observer I can observer the long fight against fascis...

Re: Jordan Peterson

Never heard of him, although Jamie's ringing endorsement is enough to make me think he's worth a listen when I've nothing better to do. I'm curious as to what inspired the thread, though, especially with a four year old link When Canada enacted a law to enforce people use the pronoun usage that the...

Don't forget the good people of Mercia. I recently made a short film on their campaign for independence!

That was a nice little film. The proponents are logical, even in their powerlessness.

he is an interesting communicator with wide following. I should say devoted following. Like people really like him. Now by communicator I mean that he really flourished on youtube and other technology platforms. Over time and with greater popularity he started to give public presentations, lectures ...

Re: "IT'S THE MEDIA!"

I think the OP is really about proper media, like real newspaper and so forth, not parler. But, following what randomizer is saying about seeking confirmation, people are joining social media platforms, such as Parlour, to find the news they want. And, yes, people are choosing these platforms, but a...

Re: "IT'S THE MEDIA!"

Epoch Times just did a drop of free newspapers at the housing complex where I work. They have done a few drops this last year in various parts of Canada. It has a real high quality. I do remember being really into them for like a year in the late 2000's. It was a free source of world news, in print,...

Re: "IT'S THE MEDIA!"

People like to blame the media. No, they like to blame the mainstream media. Typical arguments: 1. 24 hour cable news networks become entertainment 2. websites use clickbait headlines to increase page views and to generate revenue from ad sales, this diminshes the quality of the news 3. Print media ...

Re: US authoritarianism

The V-Dem institute tries to quantify authoritarianism in countries across the world. It noted that the US (along with many other countries) have become more authoritarian in the last few years: https://www.v-dem.net/en/ Full disclaimer - about 2% of the funding (probably < 1% of total funding) for...

Re: US authoritarianism

I'm surprised Hitler wrote so many quotable remarks in English. No doubt they came from his less well known second book, Carry On Kampfing. In all seriousness, the use of violence to deal with people is a pretty fundamental pillar of the police force. Otherwise they'd have to rename it the police a...

Re: Armenia, nil points

A few tidbits I've read on the topic, and peace agreement:
- Azerbaijan gets to build a transit corridor to its exclave through the southern part of Armenia.
- The agreement is an admission on Russia's part of its diminishing power, as they don't intervene more on Armenia's behalf.

Re: Why did God create Covid-19?

Thanks for reading. Well, i was playing a bit of the devil's advocate, earlier, in extrapolating evil god. Asking why evil god would create a virus is straightforward when compared to good God. Moreso when compared to Christian god. Cause Christian God is supposed to love us, despite biblical events...

Re: Why did God create Covid-19?

Sure. Thanks for asking. I posted to give an example of how Christians react to things like plagues and things like the current virus. I think a prayer can demonstrate this. You are right that a more recent prayer would reflect present beliefs. So why do I like the older prayer? 1. I am just interes...

And that website is just the drones, not other bombs.
