Re: US authoritarianism

Okay, I'll take a shot. I get that this conversation is in other threads too. Three examples of US authoritarianism. 1. I wonder if Corporate culture in the US is authoritarian. So Corporations who bust unions. 2. New laws in response to 9/11 attacks which limit civil rights. 3. Churches. This one i...

Re: Why did God create Covid-19?

Because they were superstitious and ignorant. And possibly afraid. I like this older prayer because its like they are holding god to account. Today it might sound like this, in as few as words as possible, "God these are things you've done before. You have the power to create these things, and then...

Re: Why did God create Covid-19?

Its a good question. Consider this prayer from 1662 England. In the Time of Any Common Plague or Sickness O Almighty God, who in thy wrath did send a plague upon thine own people in the wilderness, for their obstinate rebellion against Moses and Aaron; and also, in the time of king David, didst slay...

Re: Why did God create Covid-19?

Ah, yes, god. I like your definition of evil God. A sadistic God. In this case, the answer is easy. You already gave it. Let me give the fuller answer. Evil God created the virus to watch us suffer for His entertainment. And He was planning this virus for awhile, to catch us while we were off guard....

Re: US authoritarianism

I think I was asking in the first place because I was assuming that at one point there was a consensus that authoritarianism is bad, and that democracy is good. I was also wondering if people might be more authoritarian than they realize. These things are hard to put into words, tho. And, after read...

Re: US authoritarianism

I've seen V for Vendatta, and read Children of Men, and one thing is certain, UK authoritarianism is zany. As for a definition, Octavious, you are like using it as adjective. I guess that's what it is, a way to describe. You also say its definition is broad and varies. Is there a way to about it tha...

Re: US authoritarianism

US authoritarianism aside, is there a consensus on this forum that authoritarianism is bad? Sadly, apparently not. oh geez, I forget why i asked. But i guess we can't take it for granted that there is a common understanding on authoritarianism. Especially, on a political forum of dip enthusiasts, a...

Re: US authoritarianism

Nice article on the extreme right in the US https://www.ips-journal.eu/topics/security-and-defence/the-resurgence-of-the-us-paramilitary-right-4691/ Interesting website and straightforward analysis. I think Facebook has been cracking down on right wing militia groups in the USA. This policy is even...

In Canada we call them advance polls. I always thought there just a courtesy and to make voting more accessible.

diplomacy online history

Hi, I am a new member. Curious to know if anyone is familiar with diplomacy's online history. Mainly I am asking because I played on 'diplomacy.ca' in the 2000's, that site is long gone, but perhaps some of its players made it here? I also thought the game's online history could be an interesting fo...
