Re: Forum moderation/activity discussion

This style of forum is hopelessly outdated. I'd say either kill it like it's a nazi, and move over to discord. Or try to make it a place where it's easy to discuss strategy and tactics: Support easily importing map images from all major dip websites. Auto-generate maps from sets of orders, etc. Eith...

Re: Moderate scoring systems

I feel like it's more about the players and less about the scoring system. If the players want to draw, they'll find justifications within the scoring system for their opinion. Agree with this. I'd also like to add that most games are part of a tournament, and the tournament aspects have a bigger i...

Re: Moderate scoring systems

Sure, there are good arguments in favor of DSS. All I'm saying is that "It's in the rulebook" is not one of them.

Re: Moderate scoring systems

I will, however, reiterate my opposition to scoring systems where draws are not shared equally: The very first page of the rules demand that draws be shared "equally". Any evaluation of player performance (such as SoS scoring) that does not honor the requirement that draws be shared equally does no...

I think the app Primacy is compatible with Realpolitik file formats. Their discord is here: https://discord.gg/KukbPA8m

Edit: Oh shoot, I just realized the question is about the AI. The answer is "No."

Re: Is the Diplomacy Map Unbalanced?

The gunboat stats are available here: https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/jens.forsgaard/viz/GunboatDiplomacyOpeningDatabase/Overview In gunboat, PPSC had a solo rate of ~70%, while DSS has a solo rate of ~40%. I also think everyone should note the difference if you filter on pot size >= 701 comp...

Re: move resolution bug

13. Support is cut if the unit giving support is attacked from any province except the one where support is being given. The issue lies in the phrase "attacked from." Does the attack come from the land or does the attack come from the sea? That's the ambiguity. Reading this again, the situation is ...

Re: move resolution bug

I would have preferred it if the rule was different. Would have been more consistent across rules if the attack counted as coming from the see only. As it is now, in terms of cutting support the attack comes from the sea and from the land. But for all other issues (head-to-head movement, possible re...

Re: move resolution bug

Oh, I just realized you were talking on cutting support for an attack on the sea province containing the fleet. Yes, then having two routes makes a difference. Cutting support for an attack on the original province of the army, as in this case, it doesn't matter how many convoy routes you have. That...

Re: move resolution bug

I think a better way to restate it is "for the purposes of cutting support, convoyed attacks are considered to come from the source province and all fleets in the convoy". (But even that isn't right, because you *can* cut support with a convoy if you still have another valid convoy route) I'm not s...

Re: move resolution bug

Yeah, I don't think this scenario is in the rulebook either. It's one of the scenarios I checked before, and if I remember correctly all websites/apps has the same outcome as webDip: Bre will not be allowed to cut the support of Pic, even though it's moving via convoy. I'm not sure where dank used t...

Re: Crystal Ball Diplomacy

In this variant, the player who is lucky enough to guess correctly, in the event that their opponent guesses the *wrong* counter by gambling that the other move would be made, the effect of those right/wrong guesses is massively amplified, because the first player's second phase of orders will reso...

It's reported here:
https://github.com/kestasjk/webDiplomacy/issues/704

(And I say that because, that's where you should report issues like these.) Now, I'm not a developer, but Im guessing this one is lowest priority.

Re: Freedom!

I think the weirdest part of it was framing it as an 'elimination strategy,' when elimination has to be global. It's was always a hold-out-until-vaccines strategy. And a race against time to get as many vaccinated as possible.

I think you just play a game against the bots, and get used to the interface. That'll give a rating.

Re: Screwed up orders

But gunboat communication is not what the original post was about. It was about deliberately giving an illegal order, and later claiming it was an accident. If that's what we're talking about, then it might defeat the purpose to have an opt in for allowing illegals. Like, if I played a game with exp...
