Re: Favourite country and why?
Not sure if I would say Turkey is my favorite country, but I think it gets called boring quite often. In my opinion this is mostly due to a lack of creativity: • Turkey has 3 very legitimate opening options, which is more than most countries, and choosing which is best for the diplomatic situation i...

Re: How often do games draw?
I was curious about this, and it looks like it is no longer true that most games are solos. Thanks teccles for checking the data on this, it's very cool that President Eden's explanation for why there were more solos in PPSC really reveals itself in the actual numbers. I've never played under that ...

Re: How often do games draw?
Your friend is definitely incorrect about solos and two-way draws being the normal results for a game of standard diplomacy. Three way draws are most common for a variety of reasons, even when all players desire a solo. Here are a couple excellent articles that might help explain why: http://uk.dipl...

Re: A rant about Reliability Rating
Warfare isn't like grocery shopping This isn't warfare; this is a board game. Board games involve friends or strangers agreeing to a set of rules and competing in a friendly competition for enjoyment and mental stimulation. So when someone agrees to play a game on this site, they aren't fighting a ...

Re: A rant about Reliability Rating
I think some of these comments are missing the point. No you are missing the point. Signing up for games where you can't submit orders on time is selfish and ruins the experience for six other people. It's your responsibility to make sure you can play (or ask for a pause if absolutely necessary) no...

I was also there! Played the evening session, which was my first ever real-time game. Managed to survive to the draw and had a fun time doing it. Will be signing up for more such tournaments in the future.

Re: Winning as Russia in Gunboat
Ah okay that helps to explain your reasoning. I like the way your student summed up the reasoning. I haven't thought about putting players into psychological profiles based on their moves before but now that you've brought up the "one purpose" psychology I can imagine a number of other profiles as w...

Re: Winning as Russia in Gunboat
Very interesting read once again and congrats on the well-deserved win. Do you mind elaborating more on what led you to believe Italy would move to Adriatic Sea on that one turn instead of Eastern Mediterranean?

@dancing queen
You were briefly critical on the stream of an Austrian opening Tri-Alb, Bud-Ser, Vie hold. Do you mind elaborating later (after recovering from a long stream today!) on Austrian openings?
Thanks so much for the stream it is awesome to watch.

Re: Winning as Russia in Gunboat
EG's anti-French alliance is also anti-Russian. AI's anti-Turkish alliance is also anti-Russian. But Russia does not have the benefit of the strong original positions of France and Turkey. I think there is a bit more nuance here that you skip over. In the EG alliance against France, England is inde...

Re: Winning as Russia in Gunboat
Great article, can't wait for the part 2! Was wondering if this game changes your thoughts on the solo win plan for Russia in any way? For example, I noticed that you didn't conquer Norway but did conquer Venice. It seems to me that for Russia to succeed in the south an Italian ally is usually neces...

Re: When to Solo?
Stalemate lines often can determine whether the backstab makes sense or not. Those 3 centers could be on a stalemate line and would make you a solid threat to solo win, or they could be far from a stalemate line and France and Russia could still force you to draw. I would suggest reading Brother Bor...
