Re: Arguments for God

God is the mountains, God is the sun, God is the quarks and every quantum field. I can show you all of these things. Which is all good stuff. God is glorious, magnificent, beautiful and terrible and all that. But what I have to ask, as it seems somewhat crucial from the perspective humanity, is thi...

Re: Arguments for God

If we define the universe as existence then yes, that would be logically consistent. But only if it doesn't infinitely regress back in time which means a part had to be outside of time Great! So we're done here. There is no requirement for the universe to have been created. The universe might alway...

*Insert Shia LaBeouf Meme*
Is that the meme where Wil Wheaton shouts "just do it!" ?

People often think that is Shia LeBeef
No, it was actually Shia LeBeouf. It was pulled from a motivational speech he was given.
No. I'm sure it's Wil Wheaton.

Re: Arguments for God

I like this. I am in awe of it as the Universe. But, I don't need to call it other names. I don't need to "conceptualise it as God". It is already a marvel as it is. I'd like to add to this, I discovered this concept on my own at about the age of 16 (well while reading something else) and only prob...

Re: Arguments for God

If you remove time, then there is no cause for anything. There's only existence and non-existence. But what we do know right now is that there is currently existence which means our two options are Non-existence -> Existence or ∞ Existence ∞ That logically cannot be the answer because something can...

Re: Arguments for God

Even if such an entity exists, I argue it is the height of hubris to believe that said entity cares about the actions of individual beings on a tiny planet in a vast universe where those individual beings have only been sentient for an incredibly small fraction of the universe's existence. I also a...

Re: Arguments for God

@Jamie, my very clear and understandable concept of God is God = Universe. I believe the Universe exists, and that there is this actual realoobeyond my perception. I believe we can make logical sense of aspects of this Universe. That(as Spinoza put it) instead of prayer, it makes more sense to stud...

Re: Arguments for God

The existence of God makes very little sense to me. I do not understand the concept of God. It is a nonsense concept. Both concepts of Non-existence -> Existence and ∞ Existence ∞ are absurd. Yet one has to be true. Unless there's another possibility I'm missing? My point is that I cannot conceive ...

Re: Arguments for God

To read my argument in reverse, as it were: If you assert that God exists, and: If you assert that God was not created, then: You accept that something can exist without being created. This does not demonstrate that "God" (whatever the fuck that is) is that something. This does not demonstrate that ...

Re: Arguments for God

If the 'existence out of time' claim is true, what caused that thing/entity/God to exist? If you remove time, then there is no cause for anything. There's only existence and non-existence. But what we do know right now is that there is currently existence which means our two options are Non-existen...

Re: M69 Sign-Up Thread (Actual)

I have consulted with a couple of trusted Council members and on the basis of their views, I'm going to say, I'm in.

I promise to conduct myself reasonably.

The setup is not limited to 15 btw, hence the (add more as needed) What is the max? 20? 40? 2,000? 69 of course I'd strongly suggest a 21 to 24 player max. In my (not inconsiderable) experience, any more than that leads to a really, really, really long game where everyone loses interest, which is a...

Re: Arguments for God

LIke the Kalam-Cosmological argument is the easiest. Either we had something come from nothing at a point in time, or there's an eternal existence outside of time. The first one makes very little sense to me. The closest argument for it was Lawrence Krauss's book "A universe from nothing" but the "...

Re: Katie Hopkins kicked out of Australia

Hilarious. Someone who bangs on about deporting minor criminals has now been deported for breaking regulations.

I wish she could just be dropped in the sea somewhere rather than returned to the UK.
