I recommend the wonderful Gunboat Database to assess country strength.

Re: Russia’s ultimate victory

I could be wrong but I thought there were no retreats once someone hits 18. That wouldn’t explain why Venice didn’t retreat in Spring 1941 though. Last year of the game. Huh, I didn't catch that. I think that's just a bot thing: there were retreats phase in the spring but the bot chose to disband. ...

Did you intend to do this at the start or got the idea midway through this game?

Well done. The way you deleted the enemy units one by one is just remarkable.

Re: Betrayal Blues

Morality and games have always been related. We all agree that scoring a goal in football isn't morally wrong -- the point of the game is to win and you win by scoring goals. Yet, many would also agree that there are "immoral" ways of scoring: diving to get penalties, or scoring while the opposition...

Re: Betrayal Blues

I think this is an interesting issue. I, for one, fully sympathize with people who feel guilty; it's a hard-wired emotional response designed to keep society together by punishing oneself for harming another. One of the many aspects through which Diplomacy challanges us is by forcing us into situati...

I think they're laddered, because chaos is a ladder.
Can we also get a dislike button in the forum just for this one joke?

Re: DUNE 2021

So who do you want to see playing Feyd? I feel like they shouldn't even have Feyd-Rautha. I think Dave Bautista works well as the main muscle antagonist for Part 2. Conjuring up another character only to dispose of Rabban so unceremoniously as the book did would not be as good as just using the cha...

What's even funnier IMO is that you can, in theory, survive indefinitely with positive number of centers but no units.

Re: DUNE 2021

Agreed with the rest of you here. Looks and feels awesome with decent casting. It doesn't capture the depth of the book, but that's true for any adaptation. I also thought it'd be a good entrance into the world of Dune for someone who hasn't read the books, although they might feel cheated by the (l...

I did not specify but that was for the Major and his struggles.

I'll unmute you for the game's post mortem. Until then, I'd rather not.

No, old Austria was a noob. The Major is a legend of this site, or at least the forum. His adventures are well documented here and were a great read during the summer lockdown.

Wishing you all the best in your continued struggles.

Re: First time playing a griefer in this game.

A selection of the things you've called people in this forum: "griefer, ass, weak, silly, liar, bully, abusive". And yet you have the nerve to demand respect. You've brought your in-game grievance to the public forum. I don't consider it good manners for an ongoing game, nor does it accomplish anyth...

Re: First time playing a griefer in this game.

(New) Russia here. Name calling in press: sure, if you think it's the right "Diplomacy" tactic, go for it. Not what I normally choose, but who knows, it might work on some people. Getting so worked that you create a forum post (ON AN ACTIVE GAME) to continue the name-calling for a broader audience: ...

I was seriously considering to draw after Turkey threw the game but then I thought.. Well one more win for me and one more win for Russia in GB, so I kept playing.
