Re: Gunboat GR List - GR 101 and above

You're missing a heck of a lot of players. For example, bo_sox48 is ranked 21st on your list but is 46th overall according to his profile.

Re: New FP Game

Love the interest from everyone - we'll have to start another one in a bit. Just waiting on Dejan to join now as the 7th but I'll let you know if he doesn't show.

Re: Criticism of the Lepanto

If I'm England, and Italy offers to open west, there would have to be an especially weak Germany for me not to join the attack on France.

And likewise if I'm Germany. Maybe even more so if I'm Germany because, once France is gone, the G-I alliance is quite nice.

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?

I don't think storing spent nuclear fuel in a deep geological repository is as large of a technical challenge as you believe it is. I also think that the scale and immediacy of climate change is greatly understated in your comparison to the dangers of spent nuclear fuel. (But I likewise don't have m...

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?

What's the cutoff for global emissions percentage that a country needs to hit to care about its own emissions? 5%? If that's the case, the you only Indian, the US, and China caring and combined that's less than 50% of the global emissions. 1%? If that's the case, then Australia is included. Ballpark...

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?

@MM, enriched thorium isn't a thing. Thorium also needs to be used with another fissile fuel. I agree that we should seriously consider thorium but most of the benefits require some amount of fuel reprocessing which has an associated weapons proliferation risk.

Re: New FP Game

It also doesn't mean a whole lot comparing RR between people who play a bunch of GBs and/or live games or a single FP game once in a while. With a decent FP game you can always get a pause if you need so people barely ever NMR.

@Dejan and rdrivera - I'll put one together after the break. I'd make it 100% RR for you guys but I fall a few fractions of a percentage point short.

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?

Tjappator, I think the timescale is 'as soon as possible'. The most immediate impact can be done with renewables that are deployable much, much quicker. I have nothing against building more nuclear plants (fwiw, I worked as a nuclear engineer for a few years before changing fields). I just think it'...

Re: Nuclear power: yes or no?

Building new nuclear power reactors is not a reasonable choice for replacing the hydrocarbon burning plants in a timescale that is appropriate for the climate crises. As others have pointed out, nuclear has a very strong (if maybe headline catching) safety history and is miles ahead of gas and coal ...

A neutral Belgium in 1905 is fun to see. Also glad to see what whinging in the forum isn't a successful strategy.

Re: Is the Diplomacy Map Unbalanced?

I narrowed the spreadsheet for DSS games with a pot >= 707. (Again, not positive how accurate this data is, I forget which spreadsheet had what mistakes on it but...) Out of 295 games: .................Won.........Drawn England_____3.7%_____43.1% France______4.1%_____49.5% Germany____4.7%_____36.9% ...

Re: Is the Diplomacy Map Unbalanced?

For what it's worth, I scraped the WebDip database a year or so ago. I have a spreadsheet summarizing all of the classic map ranked games (that also met a few other criteria that I don't quite remember like last 3 years or something like that). Out of 37,831 games (not sure how to make at table): .....
