Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS XXXIX

Only two fit the criteria. I’ll guess Asquith. Someone else can guess the other.

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS XXXIX

I'll go for the obvious guess, then ask a question if wrong:

Is it Winston Churchill?

If not, did he serve as PM in the 19th century?

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII

Plus I think Pizarro was executed.
No, he was assassinated by an angry mob in a Peruvian power struggle.

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII

With a name on a certain list, I don't think there is any point in further questions to narrow it down. We have two guesses left. Balboa and de Soto are somewhat notorious. I'll go with Balboa, discoverer for Europe of the Pacific Ocean.

Re: Twenty Questions - Game XXXVIII

Good one. Conducting an orchestra definitely makes him part of a group. I would not agree, though, that writing a work that eventually gets performed by a group, makes one part of the group.

Re: Twenty Questions - Game XXXVIII

Leonard Bernstein That's as good a guess as any. He has won two Tonys (not, interestingly enough, for West Side Story). Hard to classify him as being part of a group, though. He wrote with several lyricists, but none of the partnerships lasted more than the one project. But I can't think of any oth...

Re: Twenty Questions - Game XXXVIII

The lack of a single implies to me that this person was not in pop music. That's not a question, just a musing.

So, was did this person write musical theatre?

It was the use of the Vietnamese diacritics that took the extra time.

Re: Twenty Questions - Game XXXVII

This is my second guess so it counts: Ho Chi Minh.

If not him, I'll refrain from further guesses until I am more certain.

I'll take my free guess: Josef Stalin.

If not him, my question is: was he the leader of a European nation?

Re: Twenty Questions - Game XXXVII

Is it someone that was on the list of "100 Greatest Britons" according to the BBC in 2002? While I've allowed such questions when I have been quizmaster, I'm realizing a problem with them. If you are wrong, it costs only one question. But if you are correct, the game becomes a charmless game of "is...

Re: Twenty Questions - Game 36

Let’s focus on this unusual instrument. Hard to tell what one means by unusual.

Is it an instrument that one would NOT find in a standard orchestra (see Wikipedia page for “orchestra”, first paragraph, for what instruments those are), nor in a standard rock band (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard)?

Re: Twenty Questions - Game 33

If I may, I'll ask two questions, to try to narrow this down:

Singer?

Died after Jan 1 / 2000?
