Re: Zero Center survive

What's even funnier IMO is that you can, in theory, survive indefinitely with positive number of centers but no units. True - if you hold one or more SCs outside your home centres, but at some point your remaining units are displaced with no retreat option and so have to disband. You cannot build a...

Re: Do I survive with units but no centers?

I never really thought about it, since it doesn't make a difference to me, but yeah, you are right. For a quantum of time, that is true

Re: Do I survive with units but no centers?

That is very strange. The adjudication that would give the winner the dots necessary to solo would be the same adjudication that would reduce the questioner's total number of dots to zero. Am I missing something here?

Re: If you could change one thing...

Baron Powell did a really thorough job discussing and thinking about the issues, and came up with 1900. But if you really want me to, I can make a list. :-)

Re: If you could change one thing...

Like I said, it would take more than one change to "fix" the Standard map. There are a lot of issues.

Further changes: switch of Tidewater and Wiiliamsburgh, addition of Rappahannock, Georgia Bight, Turks and Caicos, and Sargasso Sea.

Re: New Variant: Comments Wanted for Unconstitutional

In order to give a little more separation from South Carolina, I have substituted the Muskogee Confederation in place of Florida. All the changes from the previous iteration of v2.0, other than some mild cosmetic stuff, are in that area. Please let me know what you think.

Re: Soloing as Italy

One great thing about Italy if you're playing press is that every single country has a reason to talk to you because of your central location. It's entirely possible that Britain and Turkey will go a game without messaging each other once. Within reason, Italy will brush up with every single countr...

Re: New Variant: Comments Wanted for Unconstitutional

Since the States of Alabama and Mississippi were admitted to the Union prior to the 1830 census, the Florida figures certainly do not include most of West Florida. On the variant map, the unincluded territory would be the provinces of Natchez and Biloxi, and much of the province of Pensacola.

Re: New Variant: Comments Wanted for Unconstitutional

That is, I presume, population data for East Florida only. In this scenario, the Floridas remain united. But yes, some suspension of disbelief is often required in Diplomacy. For example, the fiction in Standard that Turkish armies are just as powerful as German or French armies.

Re: New Variant: Comments Wanted for Unconstitutional

The first two playtests have concluded and I have been collecting comments. After having reviewed the playtests and gone through the comments, I have come up with proposed revisions. The biggest change by far is is adding La Republica de la Florida, or just plain Florida for short, as a Power replac...

Play every game of Diplomacy as if it will be the last game of Diplomacy you will ever play. I would disagree. If it's your last game, you have no reputation to uphold, you can be a ruthless as you want. After a while, you'll get known as a mega-backstabber. I disagree with your disagreement....

Re: Winning as Austria against bots?

It's harder against bots than in real games because all the bots are convinced that they should get Austria's centers. 90% of the time, Russia moves to Galicia, Italy stabs in the first two years, and Turkey goes for your scs first chance they get. And how exactly is that different from going up ag...
