From what I can tell, Goldilocks first appeared in an 1850 version of the story written by Joseph Cundall. The little girl's name is "Silver-hair" but she is essentially the same character. Previous versions of the story had an old woman or a fox instead, which I think is pretty far removed.

I actually am starting to suspect that this is might not be the case: the first appearance of the character may have been in a non-novel book. Hominidae has given us Humpty Dumpty before, for example.

I would agree with this. Free hint: the character is much, much, much more famous than the author.
