Good one. Conducting an orchestra definitely makes him part of a group. I would not agree, though, that writing a work that eventually gets performed by a group, makes one part of the group.

Writing works for orchestras and musicals definitely qualifies as being 'in a group' in my book.
And of course, conducting world famous orchestras such as the NY Phil, BSO, Vienna Phil, etc.

Leonard Bernstein
That's as good a guess as any. He has won two Tonys (not, interestingly enough, for West Side Story). Hard to classify him as being part of a group, though. He wrote with several lyricists, but none of the partnerships lasted more than the one project. But I can't think of any other 2-Tony-winning musician who could be classified as being in a group (or team), and are dead.
I actually had his Wikipedia page pulled up as a guess based on prior answers, with the "2 Tonys" answer I searched the page, saw the match, and knew it was him. Writing works for orchestras and musicals definitely qualifies as being 'in a group' in my book.

Did he win at least 5 Tony Awards?

If yes, I will guess Richard Rogers.
No, but he did win 2.

Question - Was this person best known for being in a band or other group? (as opposed to as an individual or solo act)
Yes, not a band, but group(s).

If they were I'm guessing Sondheim (unless person isn't male).
Note that Sondheim was already in a game. No rule against reusing someone I guess so it's possible, but FYI.
Oh, thanks for the heads up! That's what I get for not checking the forum enough. I'll take away my guess then

If they were not in Musical theater, my question is "Is this person famous for playing music (as a singer or using instruments as opposed to composer/song writer)?

The lack of a single implies to me that this person was not in pop music. That's not a question, just a musing.

So, was did this person write musical theatre?

Did he issue a single in the 1960's?
It would not be entirely accurate to use the word "single", but yes, this person was musically active during that time.

Also we haven't had someone ask male/female yet. Would you like me to answer this and count it as a question?
Is it a man?
