"De Havilland was not only the last surviving major cast member of Gone with the Wind (1939) and one of the longest-lived major stars in Hollywood history, but she was unquestionably the last surviving iconic figure from the peak of Hollywood's golden era during the late 1930s, and her passing truly marked the end of an era.

She's one of the most famous and highly rated actresses of all time.

Many people have been killed by subjectivity

I would still stick to something a little bit more quantifiable, like 50% of folks hit by a dart tossed from Doug's window (never heard this metaphor, but I love it).

I was purely referring to the initial rule of 50% hit by the dart set by Doug. I bet you 100 webPoints that neither in the US nor in the UK you would achieve 10%. I reckon that her figure is strongly esoteric.

But thanks to this challenge, we, the more ignorant ones from the population of 90%, have learnt something new. And now, joined the esoteric elite!

Of course it was valid.

Amazed people not heard of her (especially J tbh).

I'm late 20s and know Olivia de Havilland!

I'm sorrry if many on webDip have never heard of her. I am probably older than many players here (68) and she is well known to my generation. I sent the Brittanica link to show her photo mainly. I always thought she was stunningly beautiful.

People know Olivia deHavilland. Maybe she's not as famous as Napoleon but she's definitely known enough to satisfy the rule.
'at least 50%''...

To have a 'definite' answer, we can run here a quick survey.

I honestly have never heard this name, and I've seen Gone with the Wind.

The fact that we need a wiki reference to justify the answer is an indication that Rule 4. might have not been upheld:

'4. Please choose people from history, or movie/TV/literary/video game chars/etc. characters that, if you were to throw a dart out the window, at least 50% of people hit would know this character.'

I would suggest invalidating this round.

I've never heard of her, but ok.
She was in this little-known art movie called "Gone With The Wind".
That's how I know her as well, and not only that, but she lived till the age of 104 and died only two years ago.

I just hope that the folks that participated had fun trying to solve it.

I feel compelled to note that Gone With the Wind was produced in 1939 - making it 83 years old, and while I'm aware of the movie, I've never actually seen it, and I'm middle-aged with well-rounded interests :)

I'm not objecting to the actress being used in 20Q - it seems valid - but it doesn't seem valid to criticize people for being unaware of her either.

Then you are not beyond redemption. The very pretty leading lady in nine or ten films is the youthful Dame Olivia Mary de Havilland.
