Also wanted to note I did not know about Charlie Chaplin, Hitler, and Wittgenstein all being born in the same month of the same year. That's very... cosmically epic.

1894 - Aforementioned Franco-Russian alliance encircles Germany. Letters detailing the alliance state that, in the event of an attack by Germany on Russia or France, Russia is to send 700,000 troops to fight, and France is to send 1,300,000 troops to fight.

France and Russia created their defensive pact, which would later become the Triple Entente once Britain joined a little over a decade later. Below is the original text of the agreement, 1893 is when it was finalized and publicized.

1888-1888 North Canterbury earthquake in new zealand happens. the incredibly creative name is inspired by the location of the epicenter of the earthquake (the North Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand, approximately 35 kilometres (22 mi) west of Hanmer), and, get this, the year the earthquake took place, the aforementioned 1888. Motion to award the prestigious and most creatively named "Creative Name Award For Naming Something Creatively In A Creative Fashion, Just Like This Award's Name" award to this earthquake?
