North American Diplomacy Championships 2022

Posting on behalf of Adam Silverman:

Whipping returns in 2022, hosting DipCon! Join us in San Jose, California on April 29-May 1 for the chance to be crowned the next North American Diplomacy Champion!

In addition to the Best Country Bears that Whipping has become famous for, in honor of DipCon, the winner will receive a wooden engraved Diplomacy board with magnetic pieces designed and built by Matt Crill!

We will also be hosting pre-con activities on Friday for those who choose to arrive early - these may include wine tasting in the Santa Cruz mountains, sightseeing in San Francisco, or other local activities depending on interest. We recommend flying into SJC or SFO.

To register, please fill out the Google form here:
https://forms.gle/w7eWfcRmroHD3EM59

The tournament will be held at the De Anza hotel in San Jose. Please wait before booking rooms, as we are still working with them to get discounted room rates (their list rates are quite high). There are many hotels within a few blocks that do have reasonable rates. I will update on best lodging options within the next week or two.

We are finalizing the scoring system and will be using ManorCon or a slight modification thereof
https://diplomacytv.com/game_scoring/manorcon/). There will be four rounds of Diplomacy, and your best three results will count for scoring your tournament ranking. There will not be a top board.

Schedule is as follows:
Fri, Apr 29: 6:30pm board call
Sat, Apr 30: 9:00am board call
Sat, Apr 30: 6:30pm board call
Sun, May 1: 8:30am board call
Sun, May 1: 3pm awards ceremony

Registration cost is $50, discounted to $25 for students. We will be following local guidelines on masking and Covid protocols. Proof of vaccination is required for attendance.
