Currently I am working to port David's 'Spice Islands' to vDip. Once it's ready I will let you webDip crowd know.

Sadly (and I mean that genuinely; I love KW901), the map was coded in a rather disorganized manner and it just doesn't mesh with what webDip needs to be comfortable hosting a variant. It risks breaking itself and breaking a lot of other things if we host the games, so we deactivated the variant. It is still available on vDip and if anyone would like to get a KW901 game going on vDip but use the webDip forum to find players, I don't think anyone would have an issue with that.

Yes, and some have included many more players because of NMRs.

I don't share this experience. Filling games at vDiplomacy is certainly [b]slower[/b], but far from hard. There are four games of a 50-player (!) variant running at the moment, I don't know anything harder than that.

Tips:

1) Make the variant's "Joining pre-game period length" be 10 days.

2) Give it a low bet entrance (5 points are enough).

3) Advertise it on the forum.

I am not a fan of the transform option.

Hi David... probably just a personal preference. I find 9-10 player variants the best mix of size and wieldiness; Aberration and Colonial 1885 being two of my favourites. Maybe it's also because I don't think I have done anything but fail spectacularly at KW 901 yet. :-)

I'd like to have the transform option in WW 901 though. That's fun.

Tantrum, I would be interested in knowing why you find WW901 preferable to KW901.

I think it's hard to fill games at vdiplomacy. I prefer playing KW901 on WebDip.

They also have Western World 901 on vDiplomacy.com - it is similar, but smaller in map size and player numbers. I prefer it to Known World myself.

You can play Known World 901 on vDiplomacy.net. That site contains a lot of variants in general, so if you like variety, it should be quite suited for you.

(If you register at vDiplomacy, please never play PPSC scoring though.)

Makes sense I suppose. I never got to try it. It got taken down about a month after I started playing on the site, and I never got around to it. But it looks great and I love the idea of so many players in conflict without the over reliance on fleets. I hope it comes back. It would bring some much needed variety.

It was buggy so they removed it.
But I don't know if someone is repairing it.
I miss it so much.

What ever happened to the known world map? Why can't we play it anymore?
