Well done. I spent a very long time scouring the Internet and I couldn't come up with Vincent Gigante.

Woo-hoo!

Nice one.

That was a challenge.

My Question 20 was going to be "did this person have a criminal record or was he ever accused of any serious crimes?" but someone got to Question 20 before me.
Sorry!
That's quite alright, old chap. I was able to come up with the right answer!

WOW! I didn't think you'd get that!

Vincent "the Chin" Gigante was a professional boxer who later became the head of the Genovese crime family in New York. Congratulations Jamiet99uk!

Hominidae: me saying "wrong sport" was not a criticism of your answer. A race car driver was within the scope of people it could have been. It was intended as a hint to get all the guessers off race car driving.

The hint "take it on the chin and go down" was intended to hint both boxing and Vincent's nickname.

Damn, I was hoping to finally foil you guys!

Vincent Gigante was white, he was born and died in America within the correct date range. He started out as a professional boxer but with no particular success, and later became much more well-known as an influential member, and eventually head of, the Genovese crime family in New York City (or, to put it another way, he was a legitimate businessman).

I have a guess:

Vincent Gigante

Kevin Harvick is also alive, and he was born later than 1975.

I think "wrong sport" was a hint, though. Also "Take it on the chin" is definitely a hint that he's a boxer though.

I'm still stumped though. I am wondering if this person is some sort of criminal, but I'm not sure if I want to ask that.
Oh yes I know Kevin Harvick was the wrong answer - I'm just puzzled by the "wrong sport" comment...

I assume we are looking for a businessman who wasn't very good at boxing (but had at least one fight as a pro).

And by 1975 I mean 1939.

Kevin Harvick?
No. Pretty cold. Wrong sport. Not much business.
OBJECTION: How is it the wrong sport?

We established the person could be "a racer". Kevin Harvick is or was a racing driver.

Or was that a hidden hint that it's definitely and ex-boxer?

Does their first name begin with B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L or M?
No.

That's the 20 Questions done. Per the Rules, there are no more free guesses. Five more guesses are allowed.

Here is what we know:
1, 7. Real human male, born between Jan 1, 1901 and Sep 1 / 39.
6, 9. Born in the Americas, north of 30 degrees North.
12. White US citizen.
2, 3, 4. Died after Sep 1 / 39.

5, 14, 20. "E" in their full first name. Name does not start with B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L or M. Name is not Robert, James, Charles, George, Joseph, Edward, Walter, Henry, or Albert.

8, 11, 13, 15, 18. A professional boxer or racer; never competed at Olympic Games. Much more famous for other exploits.
16. Successful in business.
10, 17. Not known for government, music, acting, or technological advances.
19. Didn't work in film industry.

Not:
Kevin Harvick (dargorygel) - wrong sport, not successful enough in business.

There is still one more question. Try to find out more about what kind of business this guy was in. And use your free guesses. I'll go "warmer" and "colder" to try to steer you in the right direction.

It’s not a hurdler. This has been a hard game. We haven’t had one go unguessed in a long time. I think it’s time you guys took one on the chin and went down.

This is pretty challenging. The best piece of information we have about him is that he is a failed boxer or racer who became a businessman, and Google searches for something like "failed boxer turned businessman" don't really turn up any useful possibilities.

We also have to ask if our Canadian friend has left us any clues along the way:

Three questions left. I wonder if I might stump you guys? But I have been foiled at the last hurdle before.
Emphasis mine. Is this a hint that we are looking for a hurdler? That would likely qualify as a "racer". But I can't find any hurdlers-turned-businessmen, and in any case, we were advised that determining the sport isn't likely to help us. (If this wasn't a clue, then I think boxer is most likely - but again, we are warned against this line of thought.)

Did he work in the film industry (just not as an actor)?
No (as far as I know).
