What the hell happened?!
I've been gone from the site for a little bit over a year, and the whole forum got transformed into THAT?! Are there any other terrible changes that I should be aware of?

I think you may have been looking at it wrong. It’s always been like this.

That's not even the half of it. Just look at the idiots they've got running the mod team now.

A lot easier from a moderation point of view, perhaps. Much like it is far easier policing a city when it's raining.

I'll take organized categories, a moderation system that is actually halfway effective, permanent storage that we won't have to erase every couple of years, and no longer being known as the most frequent poster on the forum in the history of the site over the old forum. Especially that last part.

Interesting that none of these criteria are related to user experience. It might make things easier for you but you can't expect the user base to embrace changes that explicitly damage UX.bo_sox48 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 12:44 amI'll take organized categories, a moderation system that is actually halfway effective, permanent storage that we won't have to erase every couple of years, and no longer being known as the most frequent poster on the forum in the history of the site over the old forum. Seems like "organized categories" and "permanent storage that we won't have to erase every couple of years" seem related to user experience...Condescension wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 8:40 amInteresting that none of these criteria are related to user experience. Yes, it's absolutely terrible that the site no longer crashes games because the forum tables couldn't handle the load of the queries for the forums. Absolutely terrible, I think we should keep the new forum format, but reintroduce random game crashes as a feature. Maybe like every 100 posts we'll put in a 10% chance for all games to break for 2 hours?
And we can turn off indexing and search features so you can go back to having to remember keywords from your old favorite threads to search for them on google.

I feel as if we have left out how well this new forum lends itself to a Diplomacy website too. You can actually, oh, I don't know, advertise your games on it without some combo of mafia and Donald Trump killing your vibe.

Re: What the hell happened?!
I know that the new forum has a different feel to it. I, personally, much prefer it. Some of the passion might be lost, but what comes through is more understandable and relatable to me. I don't worry (as I used to) that perhaps this site was causing some of the craziness I read in posts (and that I might get "infected" by that craziness if I hung around too much)!
Thanks for all the work that has gone into bringing a little more order to the chaos.

OK. That does sound a little crazy, even to me.breaca wrote: ↑Sat Mar 17, 2018 10:39 pmI know that the new forum has a different feel to it. I, personally, much prefer it.
