01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: Dear all - I am afraid that I need to ask for a pause for one week from this Friday. That is, from Friday 3rd until Saturday 11th September. I have been invited to join my partner's family on holiday, didn't think I could get the time off work, but now I can.

Pause please?
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: nothing like hanging around to die, but sure. Have fun.
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: I mean, can we not wait until Friday? I'm not gonna vote for a pause if at all until noon on Friday. You are quite literally on the verge of not being in the game anymore, and I think its worth waiting til Friday, because by then at least 4 move cycles will have processed.

If by Friday at noon you are "still in the game", then we could pause.
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: Yes, that's what I mean by my request. I am just giving you all advance notice. Certainly we can play out today and tomorrow's moves, but then please can you vote pause by Friday? (If I am still alive)
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: Voted pause.
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: I'll gladly vote pause on Friday, but honestly, if you're down to 1 unit, do we really need to pause a week just to have you come back and die? I think it's more a question of viability. If you have a viable defensive position that'll enable you to survive, we should pause, but if you're down to 1 unit, I really do'nt think we should pause the entire game for a week just for 1 unit.
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: If he has no defensible position, I won't pause. We'll see after Friday's turn runs.
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: I am in agreement with France and Russia.
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: Turkey is Baskineli. I deduced this.
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: Que loco!
01 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: I'm not Baskineli.
02 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: Ok guys, can you enter your pauses in the next phase? Clearly I still have two units going into 1904, so I'm still a participant in this game. I would hope you will all give me the pause. Thanks in advance.
02 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: Turkey, can you go ahead and press ready if you're ready? Stalling is not going to make me want to press pause any more.
02 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: I will say this -- that if you sit here and intentionally delay the game by not readying your retreat orders, I will not be pressing pause. Sorry, but you have two units. Russia is clearly about to take one of them, and your position will be compromised beyond repair. I don't see the need to pause for you.
02 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: Again, Turkey, I'm not gonna pause unless you finalize your moves as soon as possible. If it hits 3 O'Clock EST, and your moves aren't in, no pause. By not finalizing, you're not acting in good faith. You're stalling, plain and simple.
02 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: I agree with Austria. Removed my pause.
02 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1903: No pause for you, Turkey. Shame for trying to stall...now you will get your punishment
04 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1904: Sevastopol or Warsaw....I do like Kielbasa, but I hear the Crimean coast is lovely in August.
05 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1904: High Praise from Russia: "So I'm fucked with no good reason except your a lying asshole. I won't be joining a game with you ever again once I find out who you are."

So, I wear a black hat. That doesn't mean I never tell the truth. Like the greatest president of the United States said "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice -- you ain't gonna fool me again."
06 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1904: Comeuppance, meet [Austria]. Have you two met before?
08 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1905: Really Germany? Really? That's what you call "letting me keep Liverpool"? You know, most people wait at least a turn before they go back on their word and stab someone COMPLETELY INVALIDATING EVERYTHING THEY TALKED ABOUT FOR 2 HOURS!

I can't wait until Italy and Austria come up and knock you out of Venice/Tyrolia/Bohemia. Next turn you're losing Venice, and after that, ON TO MUNICH!!

Let's go Italy/Austria! Kick his ass!
10 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1906: I'm completely surrounded, and with no Navy (thanks to Italy). So...I'm 50-50 on throwing everything i have at Germany, and throwing everything I have at Italy.
10 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1906: I'm curious to know who you guys are. Russia and Italy, especially
10 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1906: And I'm curious to know who is FOB and who is Draug and who is Baskineli
10 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1906: I can tell you who isn't one of those three: you!
10 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1906: Not necessarily true Russia! Perhaps he's just tricking us into believing that in order to cover his tracks! Why, I don't know, but that could be his plan!
10 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1906: I already thought of that, but none of those three are that smart. ^_^
10 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1906: Hahaha, true enough
10 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1906: I bet that Russia is Drano, and that Germany is Baskineli, and that France is my only friend in this game, so I don't care who he is.

Turkey and England were just big boners.
11 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1906: F'ing misorders. wouldn't have mattered anyways.
12 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1906: Hello. I'm back to find that I didn't get a pause.

Can I just point out, for the record, that I was not stalling - I left just after my last global post, and have only just returned.

I would have died anyway, so no worries I suppose. But clearly Austria is a bit of a twat.
12 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1906: Hey, only one person voted for the pause. I was just saying what was on everyone's mind.
12 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1906: Hope your holiday was tops, though!
13 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1906: The fact is you had orders in place for the phase when you did your last global post, Turkey. You should have finalized them and you would have gotten your pause. You were the one who was stalling the game even as you made that last global post.
13 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1906: Nonsense. The phase length is the phase length. End of story. If you want a faster game, join a game with a shorter phase length.
13 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1906: Turkey -

I think the argument Russia is trying to make is that you not finalizing your orders didn't make sense no matter what so you should have finalized. If you didn't get the pause, then not finalizing was just holding the rest of us for no reason since you weren't here and in fact, only had 1 choice of where to retreat to. If you DID get the pause, then it would simply have sped up the game a little bit.

As for the whole "join a shorter phase game" thing, while that's true, sometimes there are exceptions. I personally believe this was one of those exceptions. You only had two choices, retreat to Syria, or disband. Normally I would say that you could have been lobbying Austria/Italy/Russia to see if you could get one of them to give you some support and therefore had every right to take all 24 hours. But the fact is, you weren't. There was no point in not finalizing because you had clearly made your decision and then gone on your vacation. At that point, you're not waiting to see if you can gain a better decision but merely holding the game up even though your decision had been made and you were gone.

Now, yes, it's entirely within your right to do so, but it would have been nice if you had finalized.
15 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1907: Wow, France, you sly little dick. You've gotten yourself in good position. Congrats.
16 Sep 10 UTC Spring, 1908: Ah, the kindness and charity of a dying country...
17 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1908: We should do a serious post-mortem of this on the forum when its all said and done.
17 Sep 10 UTC Autumn, 1908: Because this has been a fairly entertaining game
19 Sep 10 UTC Damn I'm good! Guessed England, Germany, Russia, and Austria right.
19 Sep 10 UTC My notes:
19 Sep 10 UTC Austria - FriedOkraBlues (-- sign, QUOTING PRESIDENTS!!!)
Russia - Draugnar (logged in & replied, use of 'd, Blackberry) - 100%
England - The Czech (Chainsaw...) or drano019
19 Sep 10 UTC I'm curious why you thought I was England Bask. Any particular reason you might have thought that?
19 Sep 10 UTC I don't remember, probably depends on time we communicated VS indication of you being logged in on forum.
19 Sep 10 UTC Good game, everybody.
19 Sep 10 UTC My notes:

England: I PM'ed Czech with the password and simultaneously posted on the forum that I had done so. Then, immediately, the game was started and England was talking. Combined with the "bite me" and the Chainsaw, I figured it was Czech.
Austria: Also logged in early and talking, and I saw that FOB was logged in. No proof it was him, but after talking to him and his demeanor, it just seemed likely.
Germany: After REPEATED mentions of "I'm not planning on attacking you" and "I dont' want to fight you and I mean it" I knew it was you Bask.
Russia: We didn't talk until later in the game (probably should have talked earlier more but oh well), and the short messages (mobile device?) combined with the demeanor and style of talk just let me to think of Draug.
19 Sep 10 UTC So, should we do some EOG statements maybe? And try to get FOB and Peter wiggin to do them too since they were last alive?
19 Sep 10 UTC FOB was very clear from the beginning - more or less the first time he posted something on global, it is a matter of character.

I guess same goes to me - that's why I avoided to post messages on global.
