12 May 21 UTC May I ask what the hell was that? I joined when Italy vanished, and then France just orders all holds?

No real EOG to say here.
12 May 21 UTC I seriously have no clue. My notes died a long time ago.
12 May 21 UTC Yeah my focus tanked a long time ago because real life duties picked up, sadly I did not put a lot of focus into this game even before we started to have replacements.
12 May 21 UTC Hi Kwiksand, glad to see you here, bummer that the game didn't work out!
12 May 21 UTC Yeah that was a disappointing game. I went in with such hopes, and was willing to plug along regardless of the trade out (I don’t think replacing a player relatively early is enough to warrant a cancel). The NMR from France though killed that and I stopped taking notes & journaling. :(

I have to say though Turkey I love that opening you used vs the “move Smyrna to Con.”
13 May 21 UTC Hey Animals! Thanks for introducing me to these games. Even if the ending was unfortunate in this one, I like the idea of EOG expectation games in general. :)
13 May 21 UTC @Germany: I actually have moving to Con as Turkey. The only time when the army is actually useful is when Turkey can pick up a second build in Gre/Ser, but that almost never happens. So I think it’s a lot better to effectively hold Smy so that fleet Ank can get to the Med sooner if it wants and Turkey can still build F Smy. Depending on how anti-Turkish the meta is, I’ll usually play the opening I used here or Con-Bul Ank-Con Smy-Arm to get the fleet out even sooner.
13 May 21 UTC Yeah, you’re only the 2nd person I’ve seen use that opening. I love it for the points you mentioned and it can make defending a convoy in much easier. That in turn can make Italian players think twice about attacking Turkey at all.
13 May 21 UTC The opening is gaining popularity since the article by BrotherBored: https://brotherbored.com/youve-never-used-turkeys-best-opening/
13 May 21 UTC Yes the point about having Const open in important especially with the meta about Italy. However the logic is a little different in gunboat since having diplomatic cards is more sublte. I tend to prefer openin to Armenia and then to ankara because that makes Russia stay in base in Sev while sending a friendly signal with Anakara-> Const and Arm to Ank in fall 1901
13 May 21 UTC (I am tickled by those articles. I was the Austria in Swrodsman’s middle game to his Austria and that was probly the warmest genuine alliance Ive ever played. Someone dropped out of the finals so I subbed in as an ill fated England in the final so had not much interaction with his Turkey)
13 May 21 UTC As long as we are at it, I will say I wasnt really expecting Turkey and Austria to both want to be buddies which afforded me real possibilities. Having unwound Italy’s Tunis position (two years of trying to sneak into Aegean and E Med in the face of two Turkish fleets was unwise I think.) I wanted yo go after Iberia until Turkey started running rampant across Austria. Had we continued, I would have been really up against it
13 May 21 UTC From my perspective, I could not effectively fight against both Turkey and Russia while your fleet was in ADR because I could not read you as an alternate. But perhaps I was overly cautious and didn't need to give up the territory I did.
13 May 21 UTC Quite sensible. There was no way for you to know
13 May 21 UTC You -might- have been able to Austria. It certainly would have been a risk, but that’s one reason I really started leaning on Russia.

But yeah - I certainly noticed the change of Italy once you stepped in Ogion! Especially once you’re units started moving in a more decisive manner. I was sad to see Italy stop smacking their head against Turkey’s wall xD
(Also worried too - lol)

While I wasn’t playing well enough to land a solo I was trying to think and aim for one, so seeing a vitalized Italy made that esteem even more unlikely. Especially with me not seeing a good path/opportunity on disrupting England. I do wonder if the best time to stab England would have been the autumn (or maybe spring) move in 1904. Take Norway and then force StP. Though I did ignore my own advice vs France in 1904, and instead of continuing the attack on Paris I changed targets to Marseilles. The temptation of that center proved too much in the end
13 May 21 UTC That's tricky, because that would have launched a pretty quick EF against you and with only Burgundy in hand, that could have become unruly in a hurry. I will say 1905 would have been a solid time for England to stab you, though, after those two army builds.
13 May 21 UTC My units were in all sorts of positions I didn’t like this game, especially towards the end.

I was concerned in 04 though, especially after I didn’t get the support into StP in 03. I think ultimately I went for Brest in autumn 04 rather than switch up because like Italy said it was probably too early for Germany to stab.

As for 05 I don’t think I even considered it - probably because it would only be for one SC which wasn’t a huge gain, and also probably because this game was kind of dead by that point
13 May 21 UTC France I don’t really understand why you just started entering holds!
13 May 21 UTC With the previos 5 EOG games this game should have been a success. I don't know what happened with all the missed deadlines, CD and holds. I really like EOG but I can't be bothered too much with this one. I will ofc answer any questions about my moves.

13 May 21 UTC Srping 1902, Austria got into Galicia for free. Was that a misorder?
13 May 21 UTC I think there can be some value in this EOG...not a lot, but some.

Italy, im glad to hear that my baseline idea on “it’s too soon” was inline with yours. If I’d gone for the stab, I would have been playing for positioning and control over Scandinavia.

My goal in not providing support into StP during 1903 was solely to buy Russia time in their fight with Austria. I wanted to keep them tangled and interlocked while we dealt with France. If we were exchanging press I probably would have supported you in with some promises made to provide Russia that time to recover.

Of course most of the questions I had were for France. Ah well.
13 May 21 UTC Italy, that hold was not intended indeed.
