25 Feb 21 UTC I feel dirty agreeing to that draw rather than holding out for a smaller one but, with all four of you seemingly united, I suspect that smaller one would not include me.

Good game though, folks, I did have fun.

From my perspective, I felt like I was flailing about out of my depth at the beginning and wondered if I had any place being in a high points value game, then seemed to snowball in a way that surprised even me. The stab on Austria worked, then I thought France looked like they were getting too strong, moved to limit them and found myself overwhelming their defences.

I’m not sure that doing so wasn’t my most successful mistake - it both allowed Turkey to reinforce their position and marked me as a threat to unite against by crossing the stalemate line.

In hindsight, I should have kept the pressure on Turkey by moving to Aeg or Ion in A06, then supported Ion to the other in S07. Building F Naples and A Ven would have kept up the illusion of leaving France alone while still able to threaten Mar and defend Tun.

Anyway, I’d be interested to hear how everyone else found the game. Thanks for organising it, Strauss!
25 Feb 21 UTC GG to all! Thanks to England and Russia for helping with me and turkey in forming the defensive position to prevent the Italian solo/
25 Feb 21 UTC Good game! I’m lucky to have survived and I think I owe it mostly to rapid Italian growth mid game. Everyone had to stop attacking me and worry about the green monster :)
25 Feb 21 UTC Interesting game. I've never really done gunboats before, but I did get the sense this one was high quality. I was impressed that Russia didn't attack me near the end when I left myself open, and similarly near the start. I was considering trying to ally Italy at one point, but there was really nowhere for me to go.
26 Feb 21 UTC I figured if I stabbed you I would be in the same position with italy but with you angry and throwing scs to him.

I almost unchecked my draw vote but thought it would likely provoke an attack by Germany.
26 Feb 21 UTC GG all. Interesting that Austria and I both grew quickly and ended up been eliminated. Think I over committed to my attack on Eng and left my rear too exposed. Was hoping Italy would press his attack west before turning on me. My mid order in A1907 was costly, but these things happen in wartime.

It’s been a while since I played diplomacy and enjoyed this one
26 Feb 21 UTC First game after a five-year break, it was very exciting. How much did I miss that. The German vagabond fleet has had a true odyssey and defied all dangers. Good game.
26 Feb 21 UTC That's funny Strauss, it's one of my first games after a 10 year break
26 Feb 21 UTC Interesting. Stay nice here.
26 Feb 21 UTC It does seem Diplomacy is that kind of game - I first played about 29 years ago and, since then, I’ve tended to play in bursts of a year or two on, 3-5 off.

Anyway, hope to play with you all again soon!
26 Feb 21 UTC *19 years, else I’d have been a very advanced 5 year old!

26 Feb 21 UTC I originally played in the early 80’s when orders and communications were via snail mail with one move per month. Yeah, I’m an old dude
26 Feb 21 UTC Oh god we’re all old dudes/dudesess returning to the game. I first played maybe 40years ago
26 Feb 21 UTC Also played in a live tournament in Philly and NYC. Lived in Tennessee at the time. Now retired and living in Florida.
26 Feb 21 UTC I’ve been on this site since 2009 and really enjoy it having met many nice people.
26 Feb 21 UTC We all are oldies. Rule Britannia is an old friend of mine - aged 26 just like me.
