12 Feb 21 UTC Spring, 1917: Apologies to all! We didn't want to share this national weakness, but indeed, Mr. Ulyanov and his damned bolsheviks sabotaged our telegraphs. They've been safely dealt with, and, as far as we're concerned, are now exiled to Switzerland and Mexico.

Messages to be sent soon!
15 Feb 21 UTC Hey, all! once again I barely managed to handle this, and actually just freaked a while ago thinking I missed the deadline again. Heading to a short social interaction with my in-laws and should be sending press in a couple of hours at most. Sorry all about my recent absence!
15 Feb 21 UTC Do you need a pause, Russia? I'm sure we could handle an extra day or two if necessary.
15 Feb 21 UTC Ideally, yes, but I guess I'll manage to sail through this without forcing you to wait even more... This game is already slow enough.

Entered orders because electricity is wavering, but hopefully I'll still manage to send press.
15 Feb 21 UTC I have put in pause in case
16 Feb 21 UTC I will also enter pause in case that is helpful.
16 Feb 21 UTC GameMaster: Game was extended due to at least 1 member failing to enter orders and having an excused missed turn available. This has un-readied all orders.
17 Feb 21 UTC GameMaster: Game was extended due to at least 1 member failing to enter orders and having an excused missed turn available. This has un-readied all orders.
17 Feb 21 UTC Gosh
17 Feb 21 UTC However infrequently, I was keeping an eye on that. I emailed the mods a couple of hours ago hinting that this could happen... Hope the game gets paused and Thomas Olai gets back before being replaced. Which is also, I believe, a position shared by others (and thus that can be known to anyone considering joining the game), that we'd like Thomas Olai to resume playing whenever possible, rather than having him subbed. At least, this is my stance.

Anyway, hope everything is fine with him, this gets paused soon and everything gets sorted out.
17 Feb 21 UTC I agree that we definitely should get Thomas back to the game. I have my pause vote in.

I would also suggest that we are showing signs of fatigue and should consider a draw soon.
17 Feb 21 UTC Moderator: (gimix): Game paused as per user request. For any objections please email us at webdipmod@gmail.com
17 Feb 21 UTC Thomas should have every chance to get back
17 Feb 21 UTC My apologies guys. Real life caught me two days ago, I'll do my best to be available again in the future. I really appreciate you took the effort and paused the game.
21 Feb 21 UTC Sorry about that, forgot to put up my Unpause.
22 Feb 21 UTC If it's not too much bother, can we stay paused for a couple of weeks? I just got a daughter a month ahead of schedule and am unsure if I can dedicate much time and thought to Diplomacy.

I have voted draw and cancel as well if you would rather end this game and move on to others.
22 Feb 21 UTC Congratulations on your daughter!! That is so exciting.

I am up for drawing at this point, if Russia is willing. I feel like we have really lost momentum and feeling pretty fatigued at this point.
23 Feb 21 UTC Congratulations, Turkey! Best wishes of happiness and health for you and your family.
23 Feb 21 UTC Ah that’s wonderful news, congratulations

I have a draw and a pause vote up, happy to go with the consensus
23 Feb 21 UTC Congratulations Thomas! Your Daughter must have been conceived about the time we started this game :)
All the best for your family, it’s been a pleasure playing with you.
24 Feb 21 UTC Thanks guys :)

I'll check in every now and then and let you know when I'm ready to play again (unless the game is ended)
06 Mar 21 UTC This game has been paused quite a while now; should we simply draw it and be done with it, Russia?
07 Mar 21 UTC +1

I'd really prefer not to have to monitor this game for the next however many weeks.
08 Mar 21 UTC Everything is going well, I'm ready to pick up again if you guys are still motivated to play.
08 Mar 21 UTC I've voted Draw and Unpause; I'm good with either option.
19 Mar 21 UTC Russia? We have been paused for about a month, and I think all of us are ready to draw. Could you respond in some way?
19 Mar 21 UTC Second that. This was a good game while it lasted but all momentum and energy is gone
23 Mar 21 UTC Hey, all!

I'm terribly sorry for my prolonged absence. As you may all be aware, Brazil has lately been lead straight towards doom (while not a surprise for someone tuned on politics given the nature of our present 'government', the scale of their destructive efforts does indeed dwarf our fears), and, after struggling to finish several university assignments in the space of a few days, I sort of logged out from the world.

Some could describe it as a sort of emotional breakdown, though I wouldn't, as I calmly managed to survive the past weeks without major bouts of tears or utter despair. Yet, for reasons I could try to find with my psychoanalyst, were there not more pressing issues, I somehow took advantage of the pause I had by chance asked, due to Turkey's late order, and developed some sort of a block regarding actually settling this, as somehow it appeared whatever message I were to write would require more energy than I could amass. An illusion, as, midway through it, it appears way more doable than I had unconsciously feared.

Despite this preamble, I'm well, as those close to me, thanks mainly to our constant and concerted efforts at remaining alive. Which, in the present circumstances, do take their toll, but are still much preferable to dying. Anyway. The point is that, excluded the inevitable psychological consequences of witnessing first hand the making of a genocide and the destruction of one's own country by deliberate action, I'm well, and there's no need to worry.

I'm sorry the above mentioned circumstances delayed my answer for so long, and I appreciate your patience!

More important than than this rambling, and certainly more important than this game as well, congratulations on the birth of your daughter, Thomas! As someone who took an active role in raising my younger sister and thus knows how fulfilling, albeit demanding, this may be, I wish you and your family the best!

As for the game, well, I can't come here after a month and pretend I didn't, for whatever reason, go missing.

I thoroughly understand the arguments in favour of the general fatigue, my own absence being possibly related to that, and thus understand if, as it appears, there is a strong trend towards drawing.

If I'm allowed a say, I would be inclined, when or if possible, to continue the game - pausing it until that is viable is not something I'd oppose either -, both because I'm particularly satisfied with the results my years' long efforts have so far yielded and because I'm rather curious to see how this would play out from now on, a curiosity I hope others among us share with me.

This is, clearly and unequivocally, my preferred course of action, and the only reason why I'm not voting draw now.

However, if all the remaining players, unmoved by my words, and thus frustratingly unexcited to either play this out or wait for a suitable time to do it, remain committed to drawing, I don't think I can see myself forcing this upon you all. Though aware you had plenty of time for that, I ask you to give it some thought.

If drawing remains (after all, who knows what has happened to everyone during this time period?) the general consensus, I'll gladly go along.

I sincerely hope you're all well, and again reiterate my apologies.

Kind regards,

Stefano
23 Mar 21 UTC Stefano,

So glad to hear you're doing well (circumstances notwithstanding). Your silence had us worried.

That said, I find myself uninterested in pursuing the end of this game, even despite your plea. I would recommend instead that we start a new one -- this group is fun, I just think it is this map/game in particular which is getting old.

Thoughts?
24 Mar 21 UTC I agree with jmbostwick. I feel the air has been sucked out of this game, but am very open to a new one.
24 Mar 21 UTC Thanks for your kind words, England!

Well, while a bit disheartened that my pleas have (unsurprisingly) not galvanized a more energetic response, I'd love to play a new one once this one finishes, be it now or later.
25 Mar 21 UTC I am in for an end to this and a new game a bit later. We have had two interesting ones so far
01 Apr 21 UTC Russia, it's been a week and I don't think anyone's mind is changed; I'd respectfully ask that at this point we put a time limit on how much longer to stay paused. I might suggest one more week from tonight (March 31) - if there's been no movement here by then, let's call this one over and move to the next.

Obviously anyone else who agrees or disagrees, please speak up and make yourself heard!
02 Apr 21 UTC I still vote Draw
02 Apr 21 UTC I echo England's sentiments. Let's please wrap up here.
03 Apr 21 UTC I'm for a wrap up. I don't feel like I have enough time to give the game the necesserry attention.
10 Apr 21 UTC Alright, it's been a week since anyone else talked. I'm going to get the mods to reach out to Russia and see if he'll log in and draw; he may not be visiting the site much. Then hopefully we can start up a new one sometime!
13 Apr 21 UTC You did fine in that, England, as the email finally prompted me to check on the game and vote draw. It's a pity, as I had a major plan to apply on the next seasons, but greatly my fault as well, so. If there's another one starting, I'd be delighted to join!
13 Apr 21 UTC Naturally, I'll offer more meaningful insight regarding this game as soon as I'm not watching some online class.
15 Apr 21 UTC It was a pity on your part Russia. You were in a good position but the momentum of the game was gone a long time ago.
I am dying to know if you were going to take Berlin :)
Honestly, this had so many variations possible I could see it going on for many more years.
Thanks everyone
16 Apr 21 UTC Well, I must acknowledge that thoroughly... I'm happy this was somehow enjoyable at some point!

I suppose it wouldn't be surprising if anyone wanted to rest for a while, but I'm eager to play another one whenever the rest of you are!
15 May 21 UTC Things are settling at home. I'm in for a new game if anyone is interested.
19 May 21 UTC I’m in
19 May 21 UTC https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=359599
20 May 21 UTC Can’t find it. Will there be a passcode?
20 May 21 UTC Classical classic. No passcode.
20 May 21 UTC Weird, that's the correct address at the top.
22 May 21 UTC I will try again
24 May 21 UTC it seems I've arrived a bit late! I'll spectate this one, and be more on the alert for new ones. Good luck!
24 May 21 UTC Cheers. We're looking forward to it
