15 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: Welcome to Diplomacy! We have players new and old in Finland, Scotland and Australia! To keep things fair, let's keep the game-chat on here and not face-to-face.

New players, don't be afraid to ask questions in the public chat about how things work, the game is a little confusing at first but get's simple quickly.

Finally - perhaps we could all introduce ourselves shortly. I'm Cal, 25, Welsh guy in Helsinki just finishing my Nordic Studies master's thesis.
15 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: (Also you all know me!)
15 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: Hi, I'm Tero from Helsinki, Finland and I'm a student in Helsinki Uni. I know Cal and some of the other players from a student organisation, and they are the ones that got me interested in diplomacy.

This is my first Diplomacy game, so I guess... please be gentle (or use the knife well enough)?

I am playing as Peru, so if you know a guy who knows a guy, we might be able to do business.
15 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: Hi everyone! I'm Saimi, and I'm also from Helsinki and study at UH. I've never played diplomacy before so let's see how this turns out :D I'm playing as New York.
15 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: Hi, Im Olli, a student of Helsinki Uni as well, and am playing as Quebec. I have a few games under my belt, but all of them on the classic. Have fun!
15 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: Hello everyone! I'm Saska from Helsinki Uni, as most of us seem to be, and playing Texas.

I have played Diplomacy a couple of times but never online and never anything else than the classic one. Also, never with most of you, so we'll see what happens.

Let's make Texas great again!
15 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: Hi everyone! I'm John, a student at Glasgow where I met Cal back in the day. I've never played diplomacy before so will take any mercy or pity coming my way.

I'm playing as British Columbia, so for Queen and country and all of that!
16 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: Lassi, UH Computer Science, Mexico, been playing now and then for about a decade, no memory of playing this map before though. GLHF
17 Mar 20 UTC Spring, 1999: Hi all! I'm Mat from Brisbane Australia, I've also never played diplomacy before so we'll see how this goes.

21 Mar 20 UTC Autumn, 1999: You still didn't put in any orders, Gin :'D
21 Mar 20 UTC Autumn, 1999: Oh shit, sorry, yes you did... My tired wee head...

16 May 20 UTC Autumn, 2004: Earlier this turn Texas proposed a draw. As I suspect he has offered many of you. Cuba has discussed the 'Draw Offer' with most other countries. Cuba is satisfied with a draw, if and only if, it happens this turn with the inclusion of Florida. Cuba is led to believe this is the opinion of one-two other countries, not counting for Florida who will most likely agree.
16 May 20 UTC Autumn, 2004: A draw was proposed by Texas, five states have now voted for a draw. Texas, Heartland - the Mainland Alliance - it's your move. 2hrs left.
16 May 20 UTC Autumn, 2004: As I have discussed with Cuba, Texas will not vote for draw if we have to share points with a player that has left long ago. I will assess the situation in the beginning of next year
16 May 20 UTC Autumn, 2004: To that, I have now rescinded my draw vote, but I have done so so that Heartland and Texas cannot vote draw at the start of the next turn before we have a chance to discuss.

Cuba is open to discussions at the next turn, but a draw now looks unlikely for a few years anyway.
20 May 20 UTC Autumn, 2004: GameMaster: Game was extended due to at least 1 member failing to enter orders and having an excused missed turn available. This has un-readied all orders.
21 May 20 UTC Spring, 2005: Well my fellow players, now we are with six countries left! I have a proposition to make.

This game has advanced slowly for quite a while and the interest to continue has waned little by little for some people (including me). Also, I see no quick path for anyone to win or be defeated now that the smaller countries are out. There seems to exist a loose coalition against me and Heartland (although BC taking Greenland shows it is really loose) and we both can defend ourselves easily with at least five to ten years and probably longer. As far as I can see, no-one can make significant gains (I say this as a largest country) and I see no point of us hammering each others borders for years and years for nothing.

Therefore I propose a draw between six of more or less equal countries. Cancel your votes if you want to but now it seems this is up to Cuba to decide!
22 May 20 UTC Spring, 2005: The alliance has talked, and we stand by the terms of our previous offer. That is to say, the alliance rejects the offer of a deal.
22 May 20 UTC Spring, 2005: Strictly speaking, I'm not offering a deal. I'm asking Cuba to push a draw-button so we can tie this slowly advancing game :D (and perhaps start a new one!)

Your previous offer is impossible to achieve since Florida is out and that would have given everyone less points than drawing now anyway. Therefore I conclude that you have no offer but you want to continue this coming trech warfare for some reason!

Although if the alliance wants to continue war, you should cancel your draw votes. Right now it looks Cuba is prolonging this game against everyone else's will :)

23 May 20 UTC Spring, 2005: Four players failed to make their moves in time so the enthusiasm to continue is clearly not very high :D I repeat my draw proposal!
24 May 20 UTC Spring, 2005: Hmm... The game didn't save my orders.
08 Jun 20 UTC Spring, 2007: I can't help thinking this is what the 300 spartans must have felt in Thermopylae!
08 Jun 20 UTC Spring, 2007: Or Hitler in 1944, depending on who you ask... :D
04 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 2010: GameMaster: Game was extended due to at least 1 member failing to enter orders and having an excused missed turn available. This has un-readied all orders.
